Vernon Williams

    Vernon “Squita” Jerrard Williams died Dec. 15, 2016 in Edna. He was born in Houston, Texas on November 24, 1974 to Felton Hopes, Sr. and the late Blenda Williams. He graduated from Edna High School in 1993 and proceeded to attend Blinn Junior College on a basketball scholarship. Vernon enlisted in the United States Army in 1994 where he served his county and received numerous honors. He was honorably discharged in 2002.       Vernon leaves to mourn his passing, his son, Jayceon Williams; girlfriend, Dartameisha Dilworth; father, Felton Hopes, Sr.; step-father, J.B. Butler; grandfather, Willie George Tones, Jr.; brothers, Felton Hopes, Jr., and Morris Hopes; sisters, Brittany Butler and La’Trisha Ann Turner; numerous step-sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.     He is preceded in death by his mother, Lillian, and grandparents, Hillary and Alma Edwards.     Visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 22, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 23, in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in El Campo Community Cemetery. Rev. Claudis Prince will be officiating.     Pallbearers will be Roy Barnes, Elvin Dilworth, T.J. Dilworth, Correll Hopes, Shelissa Ceasar, Nikia Dilworth, Jonathan Hardeway, and Laturel Turner.     Honorary allbearers are all male cousins.     Arrangements are under the direction of Oaklawn Funeral Home in Edna. 361-782-2221.
