Eleanor Meador

On Monday, April 8, at the age of 88, Eleanor L. Meador was taken from this earthly world to her eternal rest with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Eleanor Lydia Louise Spree was born to Elmer and Bessie Stolp Spree in the family home at the end of Koop Loop Road, now County Road 312, on September 18, 1924.
Eleanor grew up on the farm among family and other relatives attending the Lutheran Parochial school at St. Paul Lutheran Church close by. She also attended Casa Blanca School for three years until she had to move to Edna High as a sophomore. Her junior and senior years were spent in Vanderbilt High School, later known as Industrial High School, where she graduated with the highest senior honors in 1942.

Walter Cunningham

 

Walter Dennis “D.D.” Cunningham, age 61, of Wharton, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at his residence in Burr following an extended illness. He was born on Oct. 24, 1951, in Palacios, a son of the late Gerald and Clara Jean Armstrong Cunningham.
Funeral services were held at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at Wharton Funeral Home with Nathan Muhlhausen officiating.
Survivors include his wife, Susie Cunningham of Wharton; son, Brian Cunningham of El Toro; daughter, Dayna Wharton of Nacogodoches; step-children, Morgan Muhlhausen of Wharton, Miranda Mendoza of Wharton and America Star Hill of Sugar Land, Sgt. Simon Paul Mendoza of Vicenza, Italy, Isreal Mendoza of Wharton and Michael Mendoza of Burr; 11 grandchildren; sister Susan Price of Lake Charles, La.; and brothers Freddie Cunningham and James “Bubba” Cunningham of Wharton.
Funeral services were under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.

Janet Rankin

 

Janet Anders Rankin, 41, of Fort Smith, Ark., formerly of Edna, died March 18, 2013 after a short battle with cancer. She was born in El Campo on Feb. 11, 1972 to the late Kenneth Anders and Dorothy Anders.
She is survived by her husband Jim Rankin of Fort Smith, Ark.; mother Dorothy Anders of Edna; daughters, Heather Saint and Jennifer Porter; sisters, Sorothy Schautschick, Agnes Long, and Karen Steele; stepchildren, Kristie Sthoer and Jason Rankin; and three granddaughters.
Burial is pending in Fort Smith. A memorial to celebrate Janet’s life will be held Saturday, April 6 at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna.
