Drusilla Singleton

 

 Drusilla Lee Austin Singleton, 89, of Wharton, formerly of Edna, passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 31, 2013 after an extended illness. A service of thanksgiving to God for the life of this beloved godly woman was held on Thursday, April 4 at the Abell Street Church of Christ, Wharton at 10:30 a.m. with Sherrell Speer officiating and interment at the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Edna at 2 p.m.
Drusilla was born Nov. 11, 1923 in Beeville, one of three children born to Oscar Price Austin, Sr. and Tera Ophelia Bell Austin.   
Drusilla was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother to her family. She was a kind-hearted person and lovingly supportive of her family and their activities. She and “Gramps” spent many precious hours in the stands watching volleyball, baseball, basketball, or attending golf tournaments or dance recitals, making memories for the great grandchildren just as they had for their grandchildren.
She was a member of Robinson Street Church of Christ in Edna and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. After her move to Wharton, she attended the Abell Street Church of Christ. Early in the 1960s, Drusilla obtained her degree as a LVN and spent the majority of her nursing career at Ganado Memorial Hospital, specializing in surgery. 
Loved ones who remain are her six children; daughters Diana Cosper and husband, John of Wharton, Wanda Bonnot and husband, Carlos, of Wharton; sons Michael Singleton and wife Carole, of Pinehurst, N.C., Milton Singleton of Beaumont, Calif., Oscar Singleton and wife, Carol of Weatherford, and Ernest Singleton, Jr. of South Padre Island. Also surviving her are her sister Rebekah Jaap of Dickinson and brother Oscar Price Austin, Jr. and wife, Pat of San Antonio; 18 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Shane Bonnot, Joby Bonnot, Clayton Bonnot, Billy Heimann, Jason Singleton, Jimmy Allen, Riley Webb, Brian English, Mike Lee, Maury Singleton, Kevin Singleton, David Singleton and Ben Singleton.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Abell Street Church of Christ, P. O. Box 790, Wharton, TX 77488 or the American Cancer Society. 
Funeral services are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
