Ila Mae Emerson

Ila Mae Emerson, of Edna, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at the age of 95.  She was born Sept. 21, 1918, in Christine to the late Calvin H. and Ima Ola Williams.
    Ila Mae was married to Johnie Lee Emerson for 53 years before his passing in 1989. She was a housewife for many years. She was also a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be dearly missed.  Ila Mae was an active member of First Baptist Church, Edna since 1937. 
    She is survived by her daughter, Ima Jane Snyder and husband, Larry of Huntsville; son, Jim Emerson and wife Jamie of Houston, eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
    Ila was preceded in death by her parents; husband; children, Bobbie Jean Emerson and William R. Emerson;  her two brothers, J.C. Williams and spouse, Marie, Leon Williams and spouse; Dorothy and two sisters, Thelma Reinhart and spouse, Pete and Doris McDonald and spouse, Don.

Rita Spicer

Rita Spicer, 84, of Edna, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014. She was born May 22, 1929 in Floresville to the late Domingo and Victoria Ramirez.
    Survivors include; sons, Ralph (wife Patti) Craig of Bayou Vista, Lonnie (wife Janie) Craig, of San Antonio, Pat (wife Carol) Craig, of Van Vleck, and Mike (wife Lydia) Craig, of Victoria, Also surviving is a sister, Mary Gonzales of Live Oak; brothers, Jerry Ramirez and Don Ramirez, both of San Antonio, 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
    She is preceded in death by her parents, and husband Larry Spicer of Edna.
    Visitation was Friday, Jan. 17 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7 p.m., at the Slavik Funeral Home Chapel.
    Services were Saturday, Jan. 18 at 10 a.m., at the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna, with Rev. Michael Petering officiating. Interment followed in the Assumption Catholic Cemetery in Ganado.

Mary Margaret Vick

Mary Margaret "Margie" Vick,79, passed away Monday, Jan. 20, 2014. She was born Sept. 26,1934, in East Bernard to the late John and Mary Beran Hajovsky.
    Margie is survived by her daughters, Susan Vesely and husband Johnny, and Lisa Andel and husband William; a son, Kenneth Hajovsky and wife Michelle; sister, Judy Srubar; and three brothers, I.G. Hajovsky, George Hajovsky and wife Bernice, and Johnny Hajovsky and wife Joyce. Grandchildren are, Jenny and Clay Vesely, Zachary and Braydan Andel, and Jarrett Vick.
    Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan.21 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Ganado Funeral Home. Services will be Wednesday, Jan 22,  at 9:30 a.m. for a rosary and funeral services at 10 a.m., with Rev. Michael Lyons officiating. Interment will follow in the Assumption Catholic Cemetery.
    Pallbearers will be Zachary and Braydan Andel, Clay Vesely, Jarrett Vick, Bart and Carl Hajovsky.

Wanda B. Bryant

    Wanda B. Bryant, 53 of Edna Texas passed away Jan. 11, 2014 at her home. She was born Nov. 5, 1960 to the late Lizzie B. Turner and Rudolph Littlejohn.  Wanda was raised by the late Superintendent Andrew Jordan Sr., and Mrs. Johnnie Jordan.
    Wanda is survived by her husband Felton Bryant; daughters Latasha Norman and Kashaena Handaway; sons Tyrol E. Norman (Kendra) and Ronnie Norman Jr. (Felicia); sisters Annie R. Gipson of Houston, Jacquilyn Turner of Rosenberg, Terrilyn Turner, Janice M. Turner, and Myrtle Ware; brothers Andrew Jordan Jr., Rondy K. Turner, Rudolph O. Littlejohn Jr. and numerous relatives and friends.
    Wanda is also survived by 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
    Wanda is preceded in death by her parents; sisters Vaurice Rue, Beverly Barnes, Patricia Turner and Irine Brown; and brothers Maurice Turner, Carswell Turner and Andrew Turner.

Shaye Villela

Shaye Elise Villela
    Shaye Elise Villela, of Edna passed away Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at the young age of 16. She was born in Victoria on July 9, 1997 to Michael Villela and Leslie Miller Pesek of Edna.
    She was a loving daughter, sister who will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
    Shaye is survived by her parents, Leslie Miller Pesek and Jeffery “Ffej” Pesek; sister, Kaley Pesek.
    She is preceded in death by her father, Michael Villela.
    Graveside services will be Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 2 p.m. in the Red Bluff Cemetery in Lolita. Rev. George Tompkins will be officiating.
    Pallbearers will be Terry Miller, Drake Groves, Tony Stewart, Joe Pesek, Sonny Villela and Kenneth Whitehead.

Eusebia Hernandez

    Eusebia Hernandez, of Edna, passed away Sunday, Jan. 10 at the age of 89. She was born Oct. 24, 1924 in Edna to the late Donasiano and Auestacia Altamira Barrientes. 
    Eusebia worked as a housewife for many years, Eusebia touched the lives of many people with her smile and generosity, and maintained her trademark sense of humor all the way to the end. She also was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother and will be missed dearly.
    She is survived by her daughters, Janie Zamora (Rudy) of Needville, Amelia Zarate (Manuel) and Mary Linda Sertuche (Pete); sons, Felix (Delia), Ignascio (Eloisa), Tommy (Jovita), Johnny (Stephanie), Manuel, Jesse (Terry), Emilio (Angie), Domingo (Michelle), all of Edna; brother, Jose Barrientes of Corpus Christi; 54 grandchildren, 95 great -randchildren and 48 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty McCallick

    Betty Mathis McCallick died Wednesday evening, Jan. 8, 2014, at the age of 88. 
    Betty was an active member of the Edna Presbyterian Church until she moved to Austin to be close to family. She  was also active in clubs, was an avid bridge player and traveled all over the world.  She was a great cook and a fine lady. She will be missed by her many friends and family who loved her greatly. 
    She was survived by her brother, Harry Mathis, her children, Mike Brannen, David Brannen, Brooke Crawley and Brent McCallick and her grandchildren, Alex, Travis, Megan, Hugh, Kate and Sarah. 
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh E. "Mac" McCallick, her sister, Juliet Mathis, and her brothers, Edgar and Tom. 
    Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 18 at noon at the Arbor at Memory Gardens in Edna.

Esther Garza

    Esther S. Garza, of Edna, passed away Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at the age of 56.  She was born Nov.21, 1957, in Victoria to John Samora and the late Elosia Partida Samora.
    Esther was a cCustodian for many years, a devoted mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.
    She is survived by her father, John Samora; daughter, Angelica Garza (Pedro) of Edna; brother, Albert Samora of Edna; sisters, Gloria Nieto (Miguel) and Virgina Figirova (Louis); grandchildren, Levi Trevino, Karter Vasquez, Jazlynn Garza and Isabella Garza.
    Esther is preceded in death by her mother, husband Tony Garza and daughter, Abigail Zapata.
    Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 13 from 5-7 p.m., at Oaklawn Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 at Oaklawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Latin American Cemetery of Edna. Rev. John Carmona and Rev. Juan Flores will be officiating.

Allie Jane Roberson

    Allie Jane Thedford Roberson passed away peacefully at home Thursday, Jan. 9 after several years of battling cancer. She was born to Roey and Thelma Thedford on Feb. 5, 1940 in Lolita.
    On Feb. 7, 1958 she married Roy Harvey Roberson, her childhood sweetheart and lifelong best friend.
    Allie Jane is survived by her three children, Cynthia Louise Roberson of Yorktown, Roy Taylor Roberson of Houston, and Doris Janette Ackley of Montana; brother Donald Thedford of Lolita; sisters Dorothy Thedford of Victoria and Nadine Koch of LaWard; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother Fred Thedford.

Louise Janica

    Louise C. Janica, 80, of Ganado,     passed away at home on Jan. 9, 2014 with family at her side. She was born in Van Horn on March 7, 1933 to the late Russell Phifer Cornelius and wife Thelma Viola Geaslin Cornelius.
    Louise served as administrator of Mauritz Memorial Jackson County Hospital in Ganado; as well as for the JCHD. She retired with The Mauritz Co. in Ganado.
    She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, Mammy, and Aunt Wez and will be missed dearly.
    Louise was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Daniel John Janica.
