Joseph “Joe” Edward Darilek, of Edna, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at the age of 75. He was born in Moulton on March 19, 1940, to the late Edward and Josephine Simper Darilek.
Joe was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church since 1963. He worked at City Chevrolet as a salesman from 1963 to 1978. Joe established Seasonal Processing Center in 1976, which eventually grew into J&L Butcher Block. He owned and operated J&L Butcher Block along with Ludene for 26 years. He was known for his smoked sausage product sold and distributed in the area HEB stores. He retired in 2002 and became a member of Edna Country Club and numerous coffee clubs in Edna. He enjoyed traveling, gambling trips to Louisiana, gardening and other outdoor activities. He was also a member of the St. Vincent DePaul and chairman of the St. Agnes Chuck Wagon for the past 6 years. He was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as a Grand Knight twice for KC 3421 and was president of the Little Flower Club in Edna.
Joe loved sports. He umpired for the men’s softball league in the 1960’s. He was a die-hard Dallas Cowboy and Houston Astros fan, but most of all he was proud to be a fan of all his grandchildren’s sporting events. Joe was a one of a kind man who touched the hearts of everyone that he met. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend who will be truly missed.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Annie Ludene Darilek of Edna; daughter, Debra Tomas and her husband Gary; sons, Dwain Darilek and his wife Michelle, David Darilek, James Darilek and his wife Dee, and Jared Darilek all of Edna; brother, Benjamin Darilek of Moulton; grandchildren, Kayla Darilek, Tate Darilek, Taylor Darilek, Courtney Herrera and her husband Max, Ryan Tomas, Staci Darilek, Carson Darilek and Shane Darilek.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Corinne Jiral; brother, Maxine Darilek.
Visitation was held on Sunday, May 10 from 5-7 p.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, May 11 at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna. Burial will follow in the Lolita Cemetery in Lolita. Rev.Michael Petering will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of South Texas, 605 E. Locust Ave., Victoria, Texas, 77901.
Pallbearers will be Dwain Darilek, David Darilek, James Darilek, Jared Darilek, Gary Tomas, Tate Darilek, Ryan Tomas and Carson Darilek.
Honorary pallbearers are Dan Stark, Bobby Meloy, Sonny Matus, Gene Bundren, Ken Harter and Ed Sralla.
