Helping Hands loses food bank support

Marcella Ramsbacher, director of the Jacson County Helping Hands, overheard a lady having a conversation with a hispanic male in Spanish at work one day. The lady represented the United States Department of Agriculture and the Food Bank of the Golden Crescent in Victoria. Ramsbacher asked them nicely to please speak english instead. The lady from USDA became upset and promptly went to the Food Bank where she reported discriminatory behavior at Helping Hands.

"I asked them to speak English to bring our client's self-esteem up, not down, which was their perception. I want our clients to practice speaking English so they feel comfortable speaking it around other people," Ramsbacher said.

Helping Hands has since lost help from the Food Bank and still needs help everyday.
