Junior High Moulton Cross-country results

    Industrial Junior High girls placed sixth with 170 points, Ganado Junior High girls placed eighth with 265 points.

Three schools compete in Moulton CC meet

    The Jackson County schools competed in a Moulton Cross-Country meet on Sept. 12. The girls ran two miles while the boys ran three miles. The Industrial Cobras, both boys and girls placed second overall, the girls with 73 points and the boys with 52 points. The Edna Cowgirls placed eighth with 171 points, and the Ganado Maidens placed tenth with 188 points.
    Cobras Cassidy High placed fourth with 13.33, Cheyenne Burton placed eighth with 14:19, Hannah Wood placed 19th with 14:58, Natalie Boldt placed 32nd with 15:40 and Sasha Salazar placed 34th with 15:44.
    Cobras Kevin Baez placed second with 16:00, Leo Baez placed seventh with 17:29, James Adams placed 15th with 18:46, Montavius Coleman placed 16th with 18:47 and Philip Kolodziejcyzk placed 20th with 19:30.

Ganado pulls out a win, this time against Cobras

    At the Cobra field on Friday night the Ganado Indians defeated Industrial with a final score of 26-7. This was amidst Industrial's Homecoming, and the Cobras were surely proud to put numbers on the scoreboard, being that they hadn't been successful in doing that for quite a while. Both sides of the stands were packed with maroon and bits of white from the fans that supported their teams that night.
    Indian Athletic Director Keith Wright said they had a great defense and only gave up one first down in the entire game. “Our defense was outstanding all night long,” he said.
    Cobra Athletic Director Kensey Allen said the team is going to go back to basics. “We had three turnovers and some costly penalties so we’re going to improve, correct the mistakes and take care of the ball better,” he said. “There’s nothing wrong with what we’re doing and we just have to execute better. It’s about fixing those mistakes and being a little smarter.”

Cowboys win in close game against Van Vleck

    The Edna Cowboys traveled to Van Vleck on Sept. 11 and came home with a huge, intense victory over the Van Vleck Leopards, 35-32.
    Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Huey Chancellor said he was very proud of the ‘Boys. “They came out and scored early on and kept the momentum going. When Van Vleck took the lead it would have been easy to give up, but the guys kept on fighting and put together a great final drive to win the game,” he said, adding that the game was a defining moment in the season. “Anytime you win a game late you gain a lot of confidence, and it shows you will be able to do that in the future."

Maidens reach for their goals

    The Ganado Maiden defeated the Victoria Cobras on Sept. 1 in three games, 25-20, 25-17 and 25-20.
    Cheyenne Galindo had 10 kills, 5 aces, a dig and two blocks, while Delaney Workman and Mikaela Skalicky had one kill and a dig each. Nicole Ressman had two kills, two aces and 11 digs, while Alexis Mojica had an ace and two digs. Kylie Hicks also added an ace while Rose Contreras had two digs.
    The Maidens played the Victoria Cobras again on Sept. 4 and won in three out of four games, 25-21, 25-10, 18-25, and 25-21.
    Hicks, one of the top servers on the team, said she focuses on making sure her serves hit all around the court on the other side. “As a team we’ve been focusing on staying behind the ball and keeping low,” she said. “For the next game we’ll be working on hitting and passing.” Hicks added the team has been getting along well and are on their way to being like family.

Cobras keep playing hard

    The Industrial Cobras suffered a loss against the Weimar Wildcats, 23-0. The Cobras 0-2, provided Industrial fans with a show of  heart, determination, and an attitude that said, "we will not be defeated".
    The start of the season has been filled with many learning experiences for this Cobra team. Coming into week two the fans saw improvement both offensively and defensively.  Athletic Director Kensey Allen stated, "as long as we’re making progress and as long as we are moving forward, we are headed in the right direction."
    Friday night the team showed a glimpse of moving in the right direction.
    The offense put together a total of 150 yards rushing, utilizing the traditional ground and pound the Cobras have been known for. Jay Sandoval, #29 had eight carries for 57 yards, and quarterback #30 Ethan Brown had 17 carries for 66 yards, which showed improvement from week one statistics against Shiner.

‘Boys corral the Panthers

    The Edna Cowboys earned and experienced their first win of the season on Parent’s Night against the Aransas Pass Panthers Friday night with a score of 52-33 at home. A sea of blue and white sat in the stands to root for their home team and cheer them to victory.
    Athletic Director and Head Coach Huey Chancellor said the win was really great and everybody was hungry for a win, especially in opening up the new stadium with a great crowd. “We still gave up some big plays so we need to polish up and get sharper,” he said. “We need to work on penalties, our special teams, kicking and continuing on both sides of the field, but the win was a great start.”
    Captains and seniors #6 Marquis Bates, #76 Dylan Kallus, and juniors #18 Landon O'Connor and #11 Cade Orsak took the field to win the coin toss and deferred to the second half. Senior #60 Aaron Padilla kicked off the night.
