District 3A Edna champs move on

The Edna Cowboys ended their regular district season with a huge win after traveling to Hempstead to take on the Bobcats, 38-31. This win assured the Cowboys as District 3A-1 Region IV District 14 champs.
Offensive Line Coach Josh Lovelady said he believes Edna faced a good team. “They (Hempstead) were district champs last year. It was a lot of their kid’s last game and they came out fighting. We only put up 38 points, but we had over 600 yards of offense,” he said. “Our defense gave up a couple of big plays, but they started off with bad field positions most of the night. We played well, but could have played better.”
Senior defensive back #7 Andrew Mathis said, “I feel great about our performance against Hempstead.” Mathis added, “We still need to improve on defense and special teams.”

Industrial volleyball loses to Goliad in quarterfinal match

Industrial Cobra volleyball (28-11) suffered a hard loss yet hard-fought against the state-ranked Goliad Tigerettes (21-2, 8-0) in three matches, 25-22, 25-23 and 25-18.

The game started out well enough with Cobra Maddison Heibel serving and Goliad pulling some mistakes to get the Cobras on the scoreboard. Heibel served two aces in the next three plays that brought the initial score to 5-0, Cobras. Finally a Tigerette spike found Cobra ground and put themselves on the scoreboard as well.

From there the game became more well matched, Goliad added a few more points before Heibel made another move for a Cobra point. A Tigerette ace soon followed, but Savhannah Kitchens came through with a spike for her team, bringing the score to 7-5, Cobras. Both teams added a few more moves for points before Joy Schroeder came through with a spike of her own. In the next few moves, Kitchens scored on a block, and Cobra Brooke Williams executed a spike of her own for a Cobra point.

Indians lose playoff spot in game against Weimar

The Indians suffered an unfortunate loss against the Weimar Wildcats 33-0.
Defensive Coordinator Johny Lesak said the team made some early mistakes that put the team at a disadvantage. "We made mistakes early in the game, and we just couldn't recover. It doesn't help that we lost more players this game. We needed to play a good game to begin with, and that loss of players made it difficult. Next week, we're going to have to get these kids ready to win a game. We came to win this season, first game or last."
Representing the Indians at the toss were seniors #9 Jacob Foltyn, #1 Caleb Thedford, #85 Mark Macha, and #52 Ross Fowler. Weimar won the toss and deferred to the second half, putting the Indians on the receiving end to start the game.

Cobras unable to pull out a win against Rice

Last Friday the Industrial Cobras traveled to Rice field to face off against the Rice Raiders (1-2) with a final score of 44-13.
Athletic Director Kensey Allen said the Cobras started off good and scored first, but penalties and mistakes got to them on Friday. “We had eight penalties for 95 yards and even had some when we gained 15, 16 yards,” he said. “It’s the same enemy that has killed us all year.”
The Cobras kicked off to the Raiders and the Cobra defense took the field quickly shutting down the Raiders opening drive forcing a turnover. As the Cobras began their opening drive a Raider defender stripped the ball headed into Cobra territory before being taken down.

Edna Cowboys drown the Palacios Sharks

The Edna Cowboys (6-3, 4-0) grabbed a share of the District 3A-1 14 title after their Homecoming win against the Palacios Sharks on Friday night with a final score of 42-12. This win also guaranteed them a spot in the playoffs.
Athletic Director Huey Chancellor said it’s always nice to win at Homecoming and in front of the community. “We will represent Edna as the number one seed regardless of a win or a loss, but of course we want to get a win in,” he said. “This is a big week for us, it will be the first time since 1991 to win an outright District championship and not share it.”
Junior #78 Wyatt Neuman said it felt amazing being a part of the team and winning the last home game for the seniors. “We need to work on our fundamentals and the ability to adapt to the game as it goes on,” he said.

Indians fall to Comanches

By Hannah Janssen
The Indians fell short of a victory against the ranked Shiner Comanches, 28-7.
Defensive Coordinator Johny Lesak said the effort the boys gave was phenomenal, as always. “Defensively, we played as good as anyone has against Shiner; Shiner’s fast, they make big plays, and they’re going to move the ball down the field. I couldn’t have asked more from the boys.”
Representing the Indians at the toss were seniors Brandon Lister and Jairo Martinez and juniors Cameron Lambert and Jorge Campuzano. The toss resulted in the Indians receiving the ball on the kick-off to start the game.
Early in the game, the Comanche offense ran for touchdown, and the PAT was good. The score was then raised to 7-0, Shiner, with 9:21 remaining in the first quarter.
