Device helps responders

A new modern technological device will help save the lives of patients going into cardiac arrest in Jackson County. Jackson County Hospital District Board of Directors recently approved to purchased two LUCAS 2 Chest Compression Systems for about $30,000 to be paid for out of the EMS budget.
EMS Director James Sudik said there will be a Lund University Cardiopulmonary Assist System in both primary ambulance units, one in Ganado and the other in Edna.
“It does perfect chest compressions for people who are in need of CPR, people in cardiac arrest and that makes it a great tool for us,” Sudik said. “The huge benefit is the quality of the compression is consistent, it stays exactly the same and we can do it for over two hours. The other thing is for the ambulance crew it’s like having another rescuer.”
