Selders calls for action against city manager

District II Councilman William Selders brought his concerns about the city manager’s handling of a drainage study to the Edna City Council meeting on May 1.
Selders originally asked for council’s action against Ken Knight, city manager, at the April 17 meeting, saying Knight had used funds designated for a drainage study for his district and used them for a drainage study for the whole city. The item was placed for discussion in open session at a request by Knight.

Fly-in brings variety of planes to county airport

The drone of small airplanes filled the sky over the Jackson County Airport Saturday. Airport managers Rick and Lisa McClure were hosting a fly-in of the Victoria Chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association and brightly colored planes lined the tarmac while owners strolled from plane to plane visiting with others who shared their hobby.
Rick McClure said he hoped it was the first of many fly-ins and other events that drive traffic to the airport.

Recycling comes at a cost to Edna city residents

When the Edna City Council entered into a contract a year ago with Republic Services for garbage disposal for city residents, the option to start curbside recycling was discussed.
Members of the National Junior Society at Edna Junior High had asked council members to consider offering recycling in the city. The students said they would help encourage the customers to support recycling.
The city sent out a survey to its trash customers to see if they would prefer curbside recycling or a central recycling location. Of the 1,800 questionnaires mailed, 356 responded and 225 said they preferred curbside recycling while 213 said they would take their recyclables to a central location.
