Linda Ortiz

    Linda Rose Ortiz, 62, of Edna, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013. She was born Sept. 25, 1951 in Houston to the late Ernest N. Sr. and Celia Ortiz.
    She is survived by her husband, Swamy Rao of Wharton; daughter, Erica A. Munoz of Houston; sons, Mark A. Munoz Sr. of Houston and Lonnie J. Munoz of San Antonio; sisters, Mary Frances Barrios of Pharr, Connie Ortiz Ariza of Houston, Cynthia Mercado of Pharr, and Lydia Ostrander of Houston; brothers, Ernest N. Ortiz Jr. of Houston, Andrew Ortiz of San Antonio, and Richard Cortez of Dallas; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
    She is preceded in death by her parents; and grandmother, Sofia "Rosie" Castenada.
    A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Allan Lochhead

s life at the age of 67 on Aug. 8, 2013. A resident of Rocky Point in Stuart, Fla., "Al" was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on June 1, 1946 to Thelma and Robert C. Lochhead. He was the eldest of four children and brother to Craig, Carolyn and Jill.
    "Al" began working at age 7 singing Christmas carols door to door in Vancouver with a buddy. At age 17, he appeared on "American Bandstand" as a dancer in Vancouver. He was an athlete and he excelled at football, basketball and swimming. Al was an alternate on the Canadian swimming team at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo. After graduating from the University of BC, he became an entrepreneurial businessman, managing the Alberta branch of Goodall Rubber Co. He and a partner later started Correpro Alberta Ltd. He was a consultant in the energy and natural resource industries, as well as involved in developing residential real estate.

Jim Tobola Sr.

Jim Frank Tobola Sr., of Edna passed away Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013 at the age of 97. He was born Aug. 29, 1916 in St. John’s, Texas to the late Ignac and Hermina Jurica Tobola.
    Jim served in WWII as a B25 tailgunner. He also was a farmer and rancher. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed dearly.
    He is survived by his daughter, Susan Maxwell and husband David of Bay City; sons, Jim Tobola Jr. and wife Marilyn of Fayettville, Michael Tobola and wife Kay of Alvin, Mark Tobola and wife Geraldine of Edna, Gerald Tobola and wife Debbie of Round Top and Robert Tobola and wife Elizabeth of Sugar Land; grandchildren, Michelle, Bryan, Lane, Jim III, Matt, Laura, Tammy Kay, Jennifer, Timothy, Russell, Ellen, Christopher, Jeffrey, Lucas and Scott; and 18 great-grandchildren.

John Srubar

    John J. Srubar, 96, passed away on Oct. 9, 2013. He was born on Nov. 23, 1916, in Taiton to the late Cyril and Jenofe Cernoch Srubar.
    John is survived by his wife of 69 years, Judith Hajovsky Srubar; two daughters, Gloria Macha of Spring and Joyce Bundick and husband Paul, of Ganado. Also surviving are his grandsons Clinton Macha and wife Emily of Houston, John Paul Bundick and wife Barbie of Ganado and Michael Bundick and his wife Erica of Manvel; five great-grandchildren, Garreth, Blake, Jordyn, Sly and Lauren Bundick; brother, Leon Srubar and wife, Agnes, of Westhoff and sisters, Edna Kacal of Wharton and Bernice Kurtz and husband Thomas of Victoria.
    He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Mary Zetka; and brothers, C.G. and Lad Srubar; and a son-in-law, Gene Macha.
    Pallbearers are Paul Bundick, John Paul Bundick, Clinton Macha, Michael Bundick, Garreth Bundick and Glen Srubar.

Michael "Mickey" Salinas

Michael “Mickey” Ramirez Salinas, 74, of Ganado passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013 at Ganado Nursing and Rehab in Ganado. Michael was born in Lolita on May 8, 1939, the daughter of the late Gilberto and Petra Ramirez.
    She is survived by her son, Joe Salinas and wife Dolly of Ganado; daughters, Barbara Salinas of Ganado, Lucy Glaze and husband Larry of Ganado, and Melissa Hernandez of San Antonio; brother, Sydney Ramirez; sisters, Rosita Poncio of Port Lavaca, Maria Ortiz and husband Johnny of Victoria; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous relatives and friends.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Steve Salinas; daughter, Micky Hernandez; brothers, Joe Ramirez and Thomas Ramirez; sisters, Ramona Marquez Cruz Castenao; and grandson Richard Arriaga.   
    Mass intentions will be on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 8 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church in Ganado. Visitation, brunch/lunch will follow in the Edge House in Ganado.

Catherine Hernandez

    Catherine Nava Hernandez, 62, passed away on Oct. 1, 2013. She was born on Feb. 4, 1951 to Jesse and Dora Nava of Edna. 
    She is survived by her father; husband, Guadalupe Hernandez; daughters, Liz Rodriquez of Edna, Andrea Ramirez, and Jessica Hernandez, all of Victoria; a son David Hernandez of Victoria; sister, Dale Rodriguez of Victoria; brothers, Robert Nava of Sugar Land, Alex Nava of Edna, and Dan Nava of Victoria; and 10 grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her mother.
    Visitation will be from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11 at Artero Memorial Chapel.
    Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at Resurrection Cemetery in Victoria.

James Simicek

    James Joe Simicek, 57, of Ganado, passed away in his home on Oct. 4, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was born on June 28, 1956 to Joe and Angelina Simicek in Ganado. He graduated from Ganado High School.
    James is survived by his sisters Evelyn Reed, Barbara Mazoch and husband Mark, Brenda Cepak and husband Jerry, Karen Losoya and husband Robert and numerous nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Larry Joe Simicek, Dennis Simicek, and Timothy Simicek.
    James will be remembered as the “Chili King” of our family and always wanting to share his good cooking with his family. He was a jack of all trades. His presence and special smile will be missed by all.
    The family requests that donations be made to Hospice of South Texas.
    A private memorial service is pending.

Mary Ann Boehm

    Mary Ann Rakowitz Boehm of Ganado passed away Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013. She was born in Edna on Dec. 16, 1930 to the late Alban and Rosie Yendrey Rakowitz. She was a homemaker and co-owner of the White’s Auto Store in Ganado with her husband Raymond William Boehm who proceeded her in death.
    Mary Ann was a current member of the Catholic Daughters of America of Assumption Catholic Church, and the American Legion Auxiliary Post #346 of Ganado. She was well known for her flowers and yard was named “Yard of the Month” on several occasions. Mary Ann and Raymond loved to travel with her sisters Frances and Justine and their husbands Oscar and Eugene. They visited all 50 states, Canada, and Mexico. Her hobbies included fishing and relaxing at Carancahua Bay.

Higinio Ramirez

    Gino Ramirez, of Edna, passed away Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013 at the age of 57. He was born in El Nogalito San Luis Poto, Mexico, on Jan. 11, 1956, to the late Julio and Paz Lopez Ramirez.
    He worked at Southbrooke Manor in Edna as head maintenance for 16 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend and will be missed by many.
    Gino is survived by his wife of 35 years Josie Garza Ramirez, daughters, Diana Villarreal of Louisiana, and Jessica Barrientes of Edna; sons, Alfred Padron and wife Tania of Colorado, Richard Padron Sr. and wife Laurie of Victoria, Samuel Padron of Edna, Ruben Padron of Austin and Higinio Ramirez Jr. of Edna; 18 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
    Gino is preceded in death by his parents.

Carol Parks

    Carol Arnett Parks, 68 of Ganado passed away in her home on Sept. 15, 2013 surrounded by her family. She was born March 23, 1945 to Wayne and Jean Arnett in Ganado.
    She graduated from Ganado High School, served in the United States Navy, was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, choir, and committees, and was a member of the American Legion Aux.
    Carol is survived by daughter Robin Thompson; son Allen Parks and wife Andrea; grandchildren Deandra, Caylin, Anthony and Thomas Parks, Hannah Lindberg; and great-granddaughter Ryleigh Garcia; sisters Camille Rakowitz, Paula Kacer and husband Gary; brother Royce Young and wife Diane; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by husband Johnny W. Parks; parents; Raymond Young, and niece Kaylee Kacer.
    Pallbearers are Bill, Randy and Ross Rakowitz, Russell and Kirby Kacer, Roy Young, and Gary Kacer.
