Wellness Center expected to open in late July

 

Construction on the Jackson County Hospital is currently in the works. Director of Plant Operations Ruben Castillo recently gave a tour of the progress being made on the expansion of the hospital.
Currently, BLS contractors and sub-contractors are working on Stage 1 of five stages of  Phase 3 of the JCHD remodeling project, Donna Coleman, director of professional services said. She said Stage 1 is projected to be finished by the end of summer. 
Castillo said once all of the stages are completed, the hospital will have new features such as a wellness center, a director of nursing office, wellness center dressing rooms, male and female bathrooms, reception desk, surgical suites and a saline swimming pool.

Grant buys new books

The Tocker Foundation has awarded a grant in the amount of $3,702 to the Jackson County Memorial Library to purchase new books for the Juvenile Non-Fiction section. This section of the library was recently weeded to dispose of books that were outdated.

June tax vote for IISD

A tax ratification election was called for June 22 by the Board of Trustees of Industrial ISD. Superintendent Tony Williams said trustees are asking voters to approve or reject increasing the maintenance and operation tax rate by 13 cents to $1.17 for property owners in the Industrial Independent School District.

Edna art earns eighth award

 

Theresa Whitehead, art teacher at the Edna High School, told school board members the Edna Independent School District recently received the Super Show Hall of Fame Award from an art contest at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Whitehead was at the May 20 regular meeting of the Edna ISD Board of Trustees.
Whitehead told trustees that it was the eighth Super Show Award that Edna ISD has received.

Perry appoints four to LNRA

Governor Rick Perry announced the appointment of three new members and the reappointment of one member to the Lavaca-Navidad River Authority Board of Directors. Scott Sachtleben was appointed with a term to end on May 1, 2015. Leonard Steffek and Charles Taylor were appointed and Glenn Martin was reappointed to six year terms which will end May 1, 2019.

Students honor veterans

Volunteers turned out at Memory Gardens to place flags on veteran’s graves early May 24 morning, including a dozen students from the EJHS National Junior Honor Society with sponsor Patricia Lewis. Among the NJHS volunteers were, from left, Kendall Bradley, Kinley Pletzer, Kaitlin Morton and Haley Davis.

Honoring the wounded soldiers
