Student special education records to be disposed

 

Notice is hereby given that Jackson County Special Services Co-Op, on behalf of Edna ISD, 

Ganado ISD and Industrial ISD, will be disposing of student special education records of all students who 

have reached the age of majority, as of June 5, 2014, and exited its special education program either 

during or prior to the 2008-2009 school year.  

In accordance with federal and state laws, special education records are maintained for five years after 

the student exits the special education program. A permanent record of the student’s name, address,

Air contest will be July 18-20

 

The Jackson County Airport will host the International Aerobatic Club Contest July 18 through July 20. The aerobatic team will also be onsite for practice Thursday, July 17.
Debbie Rihn Harvey, the highest ranked aerobatic competitor in the United States, is one of the contest directors and participants.
Between 20 to 25 airplanes will compete in aerobatic competition maneuvers.

JCHD qualifies for recruitment site for doctors

 

The Jackson County Hospital District recently received approval to serve as a National Health Service Corps approved site. Directors learned the news at the July 2 meeting, which was postponed when there was no quorum on June 26.
Absent members at the July 2 meeting included Rodney Roberson, Nils Mauritz and Jimmy Lopez.

Edna council approves e-cigarette ordinance

The Edna City Council met July 7 and approved the second reading of an ordinance that would add e-cigarettes to the town's smoking ordinance. Council member Maxine Price said she had seen an article recently that said the cigarettes could contain nicotine. No one from the public was at the meeting with comments. Council also approved the second and final reading of ordinances regulating the size of pens for fowl and prohibiting roosters inside the city limits.

Edna City Council to meet tonight

The Edna City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. tonight (Monday) at City Hall. This is instead of their normal meeting that would have been held July 3. Council will vote on the second reading of ordinances adding e-cigarettes to the smoking ordinance, adjusting the size requirements of pens for fowl, prohibiting the keeping of roosters in the city, except for a limited time for livestock shows. Also on the agenda is consideration to apply for an LNRA Community Development Partnership Grant for covering bleachers at Shelby Park, and a request from John G. and Nancy Turlak to purchase 150 feet of property on the west corner of Lot 3, Block 54 in Edna. Public comments are always allowed at the beginning of the meeting.

Church steeple struck by lightening

Lightning struck the steeple of the first united Methodist church in Edna around 4 p.m. today. An antique light fixture that hung inside the steeple fell nearly 15 feet, but sustained only minor damage. No one was injured and church members are on hand assessing the damage. A full story will be in the Wednesday paper.
