Ganado keeps Lions in their cage

By Hannah Janssen

After last week's brutal loss, the Indians won 37-0 against the Kenedy Lions.

The Indians' first points came with a 98 yard touchdown run by Matthew Sterling. In the second quarter, the Indians got two more points with the safety; when the Lions went to punt, Toby Ortiz was there with a tackle in the end zone.

Ganado continued to score in the first half with the quarterback keep by Michael-Douglas Maresh and a touchdown pass to Garrett McCann. McCann also had a remarkable catch before his touchdown- fully outstretched and caught the 37 yard pass with his fingertips. The first half ended 27-0.

Strong Cobra defense not enough for victory

By Michael Brooks

The Hallettsville Brahmas defeated the Industrial Cobras 29-0 on Friday night in Hallettsville.

The Cobra defense came into the game fired up, and played well throughout. On the opening drive, Trent Treague and Dylan Hempel sacked Brahmas quarterback DJ Taylor and caused a fumble.

"The defense played a hell of a game," Head Coach Kensey Allen said.

Unfortunately, the offense never could get on track. Both teams traded four-and-outs for the whole first quarter.

Halfway through the second quarter, Hallettsville finally found the end zone, as Taylor ran a quarterback keeper on the option, and capped an 85 yard drive with a three yard touchdown run. After a two point conversion was good, the Brahmas led 8-0.

The Brahmas once again found the end zone with 23 seconds left in the half as Scooter Adams rushed in from one yard out to give Hallettsville a 15-0 lead.

Van Vleck with the upset over Edna

By Millie Diaz

What a game! It all boiled down to the last quarter in the football game tonight between Edna and Van Vleck at the Edna Cowboy stadium.

Edna started their game strong enough, scoring three touchdowns before halftime, and Van Vleck scored twice. Edna led 21-14.

The Leopards seemed to find their footing in the third quarter, even after Cowboy Cade Orsak scored at the start of the third. Van Vleck's Zeyvaunte Easton scored two touchdowns without any points after, shortening Edna's lead greatly. The 'Boys only led by two points, 28-26, by the end of the third quarter.

With 9:53 left in the game, Edna took over at the 28-yard line. Kenny Haynes carried the ball to right outside the end zone, and Landon O'Connor kept the ball to score a touchdown in the next play plus the point after, widening the Cowboy lead to 35-26.

Cobras earn another win

By Millie Diaz

Cobra Skylar Lenamon said the team is being extra careful with not getting too confident as district play is coming to a close in less than three weeks, because they are still undefeated.

"Our goal is to keep the hits under ten for each rally," the libero player said. "It helps us work together as a team, as a unit."

Industrial Cobras take another district game against the Van Vleck Lady Leps, 3-0, with final scores of 25-7, 25-8 and 25-17.

This brings their district record to 7-0 for the Cobras, and 0-6 for Van Vleck.

Lenamon said they traveled to play the Lady Leps early in the season, and today the Cobras noticed during the team's warmups before the game Van Vleck had improved.

"Everybody knew we had to be moving and talk on defense to be ready for them," she said.

By Millie Diaz

Industrial found themselves shut out against the Rice Raiders tonight with a final score of 31-0. The Cobras began their game with positive drives to get the near the Rice end zone, but were stalled in actually getting there.

Avery Milner was doing what he could with the help of Jesse Rodriguez and Logan Gabrysch, but the Cobras were lacking in finishing their drives.

Rice wasn't able to score in the first quarter, but did within a few second of the second. They continued their lead with seven minutes left in the the second, and after a Cobra turnover the Raiders were able to kick a field goal before the half.

Comanches versus Maidens

By Millie Diaz

The Shiner Comanches traveled to Ganado Tuesday night and won three sets in a row to Maiden volleyball, despite a few referee calls and confusion.

Scores for the three sets were 25-15, 25-16 and 25-13.

Desiree Nitch, Shiner's head coach, said the team needed to focus tonight on their game so they would be prepared for other teams deeper into district play.

"It's always about serve/receive and we have to serve tough, because I think it's going to be key for the rest of our season."

Shiner appeared to be ready at the court today, but the Maidens showed they have been gaining some ground in the form of communication and spirit. After coming off winning two games last week, Ganado seemed to be cooler under pressure and getting underneath the ball to start some good plays.

Both Maidens Reyna Gonzales and Nicole Ressman agreed their team has increased their talking immensely.
