Cody Glover Sr.

Cody Glover Sr.     Cody M. Glover, Sr. born Friday, Oct. 7, 1932, passed away from this life into eternity on Friday, Nov. 18, 2016, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by his family and friends.    He was born to Naomi White Glover and Orville Guy Glover in Hico, Erath County.  Cody joined the Navy on Jan. 13, 1951 in Houston, where he served as a 2nd Class Electrician's Mate and 2nd Class Petty Officer.    After his tour of duty he was employed by United Gas Pipe Line Co. and worked for them for 38 years in various cities and capacities. In July of 1961 he was transferred to Edna, where he worked in the telephone department as Communications Supervisor. Cody also maintained a part-time electrical business going full-time after retirement from United Gas.       Cody married Laverne Dickey in Houston on Dec. 5, 1957. To this union was born two children, Cody Maurice Glover, Jr. and Cheryl Elaine Glover.

Edwina Fenner

    Edwina Jo Fenner went to be with the Lord on Nov. 18, 2016 at the age of 83.  She was born in Matagorda County, Texas on April 27, 1933 to the late Ernest Edward and Alta Mae Bishop.     She married O.B. “Buzz” Fenner, Jr. on April 21, 1955.     Edwina, better known as “Nana”, was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She loved spending time with her family and going to the country with her husband.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Edna where she was a lifetime member of UMW. She loved playing cards, especially bridge. She and her husband “Buzz” were members of the Mustang Square Dancers.     She is survived by her daughters Patricia (James) Knudsen, Cynthia (Kelly) Janica, Cathy (Howard) Marek and Tracy (Lucky) Wells; grandchildren Michael Brent DeBord, Stephanie Hadley, Kurt Janica, Kim Ellen Peters, Tara Currin, Carrie Marek, Kyle Marek, Lucky Wells III, and Elizabeth DeGeorge and 14 great grandchildren.

Danny Villarreal

    Daniel Cano Villarreal, of Edna, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016, at the age of 67. He was born in Mercedes, Texas on Oct. 20, 1949, to the late Daniel Villarreal and Virginia Cano Villarreal.     He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be missed dearly.     Daniel is survived by his loving wife Patti Villarreal of Edna; daughters, Rose Klein of Minnesota, Rachel Villarreal of California, and Marie Villarreal of Texas; sons, Paul Scipioni of San Marcos, Joey Villarreal of California, and Daniel Villarreal of California; sisters, Rosa Villarreal and Linda Villarreal both of California; brother, Rogue Villarreal of California; grandchildren, Asche Klein; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.     Daniel is preceded in death by his parents.     Arrangements are under the direction of Oaklawn Funeral Home in Edna. 361-782-2221.

Dennis Duane Curlee Jr.

On the afternoon of Monday October 31, 2016 Duane Curlee passed from this earth straight into the arms of Jesus Christ. Unexpectedly, he died in a one vehicle accident on Highway 111 north on his way home in Edna. Although it was not predicted it was in God’s perfect timing. Duane was totally prepared for this moment as he was spiritually in the right place and time of his life to come face to face with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.     He was born on Monday, Aug. 12, 1974 to Dennis Duane Curlee and Barbara Curlee Woods. He came into the world at Nightingale Hospital in El Campo, weighing 10 lbs. 12 oz. and was 21 inches long. He was a big baby boy with a “big” heart that would have an impact on so many lives. He graduated from Edna High School in 1992. Duane played defensive tackle for the EHS football team who made it all the way to the state semi-finals. He was the heart of the fighting football team and district champ in shotput.

Amalia Vesely Simicek

Amalia Vesely Simicek, 98 years young, passed away peacefully in her sleep at 7:46 a.m. on Tuesday Nov. 1, 2016 at Legend Oaks Nursing Home in Northwest Houston. Affectionately known as Molly by her friends and relatives, she was born to the late John and Marie Vesely in Frydek on June 18, 1918.     She was preceded in death by her siblings Albina Maresh, Henry Vesely, Fred Vesely, Willie Vesely and Bedrich Vesely who died in infancy and her husband Adolph Simicek.     Molly was a devote Catholic who read the complete Bible numerous times and prayed the Rosary  daily. She was a member of the SPJST Lodge 153, LaSalle, the KJZT Lodge 43, the Altar Society and the American Auxiliary for over 65 years while residing in Ganado. Molly was a farmer’s wife, living in the country working a hard and long life on a cotton farm. This included picking and stomping cotton and the precarious rides to the gin with a trailer stuffed with cotton normally on well-worn tires.

Margarito DeLeon

    Margarito “Magoo” DeLeon, of Edna, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016, at the age of 76. He was born in Edna on Sept. 20, 1940, to the late Ricardo DeLeon, Sr. and Frances Garcia DeLeon.     He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be missed dearly.     Magoo is survived by his son, LeRoy Zarate and his wife Angela of Edna; sisters, Dolly DeLeon of Edna, Vera Martinez of Edna, Mary Longoria of California, and Peggy Kreiss of Austin; brother, Richard DeLeon, Jr. of Edna; grandchildren, Jacob Zarate and Taylor Zarate; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.     In addition to his parents, Magoo is preceded in death by his sister, Frances Mosquedo; brothers, Joe DeLeon and Johnny DeLeon.     Visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 3  from 5-7 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. Funeral Mass to be held on Friday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. in the St. Agnes Catholic Church of Edna. Rev. Michael Petering will be officiating.

Vera Washburn

    Vera Kay Jackson Washburn, 62, of Edna passed away on Tuesday, Nov.1, 2016. She was born on Sept. 23, 1954 in Ganado to Howard John and Mary Maxine Tipton Jackson. She was one of three children blessed to this family.       She is survived by her mother, Mary Maxine Jackson; her sons, Russell Washburn and Christopher Washburn; sister, Diana Jackson Siecko; brother, Howard Wayne Jackson; grandsons, Jacob Trevor Washburn and Matthew Washburn, as well as a great-grandson, Aiden Washburn.       She is preceded in death by her father, Howard Jackson; her grandparents, John and Essie Ezzell Jackson and Clarence and Virda Tipton; and her niece Christine L. Talley.     A funeral service will be held at Slavik~Edna Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, Nov. 4 at 11 am officiated by Sherrel Mercer, followed by interment at Salem Cemetery in Ezzell.     Service had been entrusted to Slavik~Edna Funeral Home, Edna, 361-782-2152.

Francisco Ochoa

    Francisco Ochoa, 73, of Edna, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016. He was born on Aug. 1, 1943 to Benigno and Manuela Quinones Ochoa.       He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Petra Martinez Ochoa, also his three daughters, Delores Ochoa Rodriguez, Patricia Ochoa and Lisa Marie Ochoa; six grandchildren, and sister Jesusa Herrera.     Visitation will be Sunday, Nov. 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. with Rosary at 6 p.m. at Slavik~Edna Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be Monday, Nov. 7, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Petering officiating.     In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the family to help defray expenses.     Services were entrusted to Russell Todish of Slavik~Edna Funeral Home, Edna, 361-782-2152.

Rosie Lee Yendrey

Rose Lee Yendrey of Victoria went to be with the Lord on Oct. 21, 2016 at the age of 83. She was born Jan. 1, 1933 to the late Edmund and Frances Jurica.     She is survived by her daughter Susan Day; son Leslie Yendrey; sisters Edna Tesch and twin Georgia Lee Gabrysch Parker; brother Edward Jurica; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.     Visitation was held on Monday, Oct. 23, from 6 to 7 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Grace Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Inez with burial at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Inez.     Pallbearers were Brandon Yendrey, Brian Yendrey, Lawrence Yendrey, David Yendrey, Tommy Jurica, Allan Day and Jared Day.     Condolences and memories can be shared at www.gracefuneralhome.net.     Services were under the direction of Grace Funeral Home.

Guadalupe Castro

Guadalupe “Fuzzy Q Jones” Castro, of Edna, Texas, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2016, with his loving family by his side at the age of 81. He was born in Goliad, Texas on February 3, 1935, to the late Encarnacion Castro and Anastasia Fuentes Castro.

He worked as a mechanic and in farming for several years. Guadalupe was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be truly missed.
