EISD Superintendent to leave on Oct. 1

Edna ISD Board of Trustees will be holding a special meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 1 to discuss and consider employment of an interim superintendent in Room 108 at Edna Junior High School. There will be a hearing of guests and an open forum at the meeting.
Patrick Brzozowski, president of the EISD Board of Trustees, said Superintendent Bob Wells has agreed that Oct. 1 will be his last day of active service.
“Mr. Wells indicated to me that it has become increasingly unbearable to remain the acting superintendent given the selection process that is underway,” Brzozowski said.
He said in accordance to the exit agreement, Wells would remain on active service until Dec. 20 or he could leave earlier if agreed to. Brzozowski said either way, he will be compensated by the district through June 30, 2014.
“At the beginning of this process we said the situation would be handled in a professional manner,” he said. “The board of trustees is doing what we can to make sure this is indeed the case.”
Wells said as the board prepares to interview candidates to replace him he recommends that the board have a professional educator in the room to verify and interpret candidate responses and it is very inappropriate for him to be that person.
“Once an interim is hired, there is little reason for me to stay,” he said. “Therefore, in the best interest of the district and the superintendent search process I agreed to leave on Oct. 1.”
Wells said he leaves Edna ISD very proud of the past 14 years.
“I leave Edna ISD with friends that will remain with me for the rest of my life,” he said. “I leave Edna ISD wishing the staff, kids and parents nothing but the best.”

Wells said he has no immediate plans other than to rest and decompress.

"I will either seek employment elsewhere or retire, but right now is not the time for me to make that decision," he said.
