Waiting for the next Alfred Hitchcock

Out of all of the books that I have read, I enjoy the suspenseful ones the most. Currently, I am reading Alfred Hitchcock Presents: Stories that Scared Even Me. It is a collection of short stories, novelettes and a novel by various authors.
It’s packed with enough horror and suspense to put you on the edge of your seats. Stories like a man-eating troll, a homicidal tot and a wanderer who finds himself doomed gave me the heebie-jeebies. Yet, for some reason I couldn’t put the book down. I had this eagerness to find out what happened next.
After finishing a story, I found myself afraid to walk around my apartment at night alone. Isn’t it strange how you find yourself hearing every little sound during the night when you’re afraid? I close my eyes, lay in bed and I can actually hear and feel my heart pounding at night when I start having horrid, nightmarish thoughts. The clock ticking and papers rustling all become apparent throughout the night.
I think being on the edge is exciting. That’s what makes me keep reading suspense/horror novels. I love all of the classic suspense television shows, books and movies. Especially, during the mid 50s to late 60s. All the characters were classy and stylish during that period. There was no bad language, nudity or graphic violence. Some graphic violence is okay, but I don’t like watching too much gore.
I like a good plot and characters that use good dialect. Period. I think too much violence and nudity takes the viewer or reader away from the actual plot of the story. I like to focus on the details. I also want to learn more about the characters and what they are thinking. Those are the types of things that makes a good suspense novel, show or movie.
I think writers and directors are not focusing on the story itself anymore. The lack of creativity is another problem. How many more sequels or different versions of the same story are they going to make? I keep hoping the next Rod Serling or Alfred Hitchcock will come and save us from all of the garbage that has been generated through the years.
