Local scouts learn skills, make memories at camp
Boy Scouts from Troop 137, Edna, and Troop 105, Lolita, participated in the 2013 Camp Karankawa Summer Camp June 16 - 22. Summer camp is a week-long experience where scouts can learn new skills, earn merit badges and work on rank advancement, make new friends, and create lasting memories. The South Texas Council operates the summer camp. Scouts participated in activities that included a climbing course, swimming, canoeing, first aid, leatherwork, basketry, lifesaving, swimming, snorkeling, outdoor cooking, personal fitness, energy, environmental science, forestry, and waterfront programs, along with new and innovative shooting sports programs such as rifle, archery, and black powder. Campers also competed in a week-long race that encouraged unit participation in daily programs.
