Amalia Vesely Simicek

Amalia Vesely Simicek, 98 years young, passed away peacefully in her sleep at 7:46 a.m. on Tuesday Nov. 1, 2016 at Legend Oaks Nursing Home in Northwest Houston. Affectionately known as Molly by her friends and relatives, she was born to the late John and Marie Vesely in Frydek on June 18, 1918.     She was preceded in death by her siblings Albina Maresh, Henry Vesely, Fred Vesely, Willie Vesely and Bedrich Vesely who died in infancy and her husband Adolph Simicek.     Molly was a devote Catholic who read the complete Bible numerous times and prayed the Rosary  daily. She was a member of the SPJST Lodge 153, LaSalle, the KJZT Lodge 43, the Altar Society and the American Auxiliary for over 65 years while residing in Ganado. Molly was a farmer’s wife, living in the country working a hard and long life on a cotton farm. This included picking and stomping cotton and the precarious rides to the gin with a trailer stuffed with cotton normally on well-worn tires. Many prayers were said on these trips. She had a plentiful vegetable garden which she shared with everyone and canned the bounty for use in winter days. She loved her beautiful rose gardens, the darker red the rose the better. Her delicious kolaches and strudels were known and enjoyed by both family and friends for many years. Molly always helped anyone in need and would give you the coat off her back if you needed it.     Molly was also known for her beautiful Czech singing at weddings for the tradition of going around the tables singing a special song to each person for donations for the wedding couple. As she grew older she moved to Houston to live with her youngest daughter, Madonna for almost 30 years, until she became sick and had to live out her days in a nursing home.     She is survived by daughters Madonna Kay Wren and husband Russ of Houston; Jeanette Fay Simicek of Katy and son William John Macha and wife Nita of Houston. Her grandchildren include Brittany Kinney, Douglas Hortvet III, Jordan and Justin Macha. She was preceded in death by infant son Adolph John Simicek, Jr.     A funeral was held on Saturday, Nov. 1, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Frydek. Viewing will take place at 1 p.m. with a Rosary at 2 p.m. The service will begin at 2:30 p.m. and will be officiated by Father Eric J. Pitre of Sealy. The music will be provided by the Czech Singers and Organist, Steven Kutka. In Molly’s memory, the Bells of St. Mary will ring during the service and burial. The Bells, almost 100 years old, were donated by her grandparents, Joseph and Marie Vesely in 1917 and were named after Marie. After the services, a reception in Molly’s honor and memory will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Hall in Frydek. A table will be set up to display a collage of pictures honoring Molly during the special events of her wonderful and blessed life.     A very special thank you from Molly’s family for all the help, guidance, understanding and kindness from everyone in Sealy and Frydek to make this a special and memorable service for our Mother. You will forever be in our hearts and prayers.
