Lillian Koop Wiede
Lillian Carolyn Koop Wiede, 97, of Edna joined her heavenly home on Sept. 19, 2016. She was born on Jan. 4, 1919, in Koop Settlement, Edna, to Frank and Sibyl Abel Koop. She grew up and spent her whole life in Jackson County. Lillian married Marvin Herman Wiede on Oct., 27, 1939 and they were married for 69 years. Their years together were filled with family, joy, and laughter, and Lillian loved Marvin wholeheartedly in this world until the day she was able to join him again in Heaven. Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, as well as her siblings, Delite Hoffman, Francis Koop, Dorothy Simons, Ruth Denard, Enid Littlefield, John Koop, Harold Koop and Elaine Turner. Lillian worked as an administrator at Texana Nursing Home and Edna Hospital for 20 years. She was also a devoted homemaker. She read voraciously, and she could finish a crossword puzzle faster than anyone (with answers that were mostly correct). She loved to sew and created many beautiful quilts. She enjoyed playing Bridge and Forty-Two with friends, and games of Trivial Pursuit with her family during hunting season, when she was also known as "DEAD-EYE LIL". Most of all, Lillian always wanted to make others, particularly her husband, children and grandchildren, feel loved and special. Her (and our) favorite way of doing so was through her cooking and baking. Her Sunday lunches after church were legendary, with dishes she would readily say made "just for you". She is survived by her three daughters and their husbands, Joy and Bill Hamrick of Houston, Margaret and Joe Hermes of Edna, and Janet and Mike Miller of Corpus Christi. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Jana Davis, Kristen Faircloth, Joel Hermes, Chad Hermes, and Ashli Taylor, and eight great-grandchildren, Justin, Leah, Will, Lauren, Joseph, Peter, Sam and Lilli. he was a beautiful person and an extraordinary mother and grandma whose traditions and stories will be cherished and shared for years to come. Lillian was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Edna and served many roles there, including officer in LWML, teacher of many Bible Studies and children's classes, and the first female church treasurer. She loved and trusted in the Lord in every aspect of her long life and was grateful to Him for all her many blessings. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, Oct. 1 at "The Sanctuary", 301 West Church St. in Edna, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to Hospice of South Texas, 605 E.
