Charles "Pete" Van Jones
Charles “Pete” Van Jones, of Edna, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at the age of 76. He was born in Edna on Feb. 16, 1940, to Charles Jones and Lillian Marie Cihal. Charles was an Infantryman the Texas Army National Guard where he held the position of a Designated Marksman. He worked at the local Post Office and then became employed by Dupont until his retirement. He was an avid fisherman and a collector of any and all things. He enlightened everyone with unforgettable antics and jokes and his joking nature ensured you always left him with a smile. Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend who will be missed dearly. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Gwen Anderson Jones; children, Charles Van and Roseann Jones, Lee and Barbara Jones, Cecilia and Harry “Bo” Kubeczka, Patricia and Bret Johnson, and Veronica and Jimmy Welvaert; in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. T.K. Anderson; sister-in-law, Kim “Kid” Anderson; brother-in-laws, Alan and Glenda Anderson, Brad and Geri Anderson; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-children; numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his two faithful four legged companions, Saddle and Little Boy. Charles is preceded in death by his parents; and former wife and mother of his five children, Emily Veronica Kappe. Visitation was held on Sunday, July 17, from 5-7 p.m., in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Service will be on Monday, July 18 at 2 p.m., in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel in Edna. Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery of Edna with Reverend and good friend George Tompkins officiating. Pallbearers will be Bret Johnson, Marshall Lowrance, Jimmy Welvaert, Mason Welvaert, Bo Kubeczka, Colbey Cunningham, Michael Jones, Alan Anderson, Jonathan McLaurin and Billy Cantrell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jackson County Veterinary Clinic, 2452 Loop 521, Edna Texas, 77957.
