Lenor Ann Damons

    Lenor Ann Damons, 75, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2016. Lenor was born in Yuma, Ariz. on Oct. 15, 1940 to the late Roemer Rouse and Elenora Hoegenauer.     Her family moved to the Six Mile area near Port Lavaca, where she attended Calhoun High School. “Sissy” as her friends and family called her, often recounted attention-grabbing stories about life growing up in the then bustling area during the 1950’s.     Lenor is preceded in death by her two loving parents, sister Estherleen Marie Marek, brothers Thomas Eugene Rouse and Douglas Wayne Rouse, and daughter Celeste Elizabeth Smith. She is also preceded by her favorite pet, her bird, Zoro.     Lenor lived in different areas throughout Texas. She settled in Port Lavaca with her five children. She is survived by her four sons and one daughter, Charles and wife Rhonda Smith of Edna, Glen and wife Bonnie Smith of Manitou Springs, Co., David Smith of Port Lavaca, Delmar Smith of Humble, and daughter Patty Ronquille of Liverpool, Texas.     Lenor is survived by her sister, Emilie Joyce Wentworth Ph.D., of McAllen. She is also survived by six grandchildren who deeply love her, Ethan Smith, Zakary Smith, Melissa Vial, Heather Smith, Dusty Smith, and Connor Smith; and five great grandchildren, Jordanna Vial, Alexa Vial, Zachary Vial, Lorelei Smith, and Faye Paclik. She also had four nieces, RaDonna Marek, Lori Sturm, Carrie Rouse, and Katharine Kazerani, Pharm.D.     Anyone who knew Lenor would vouch the common thread throughout her employment and life was a focus on helping others. Whether it was doing clerical work at the doctor’s office, or helping the small business owner put their own dreams together, she always tried her hardest to help people succeed. Later in life, Lenor became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, a result of her love for people in her community. She used the Bible to show others the promising hope of God’s Kingdom and the hope He holds out to us. She whole-heartedly believed in Matthew 6:9-10, “Our Father in the heavens let your name be sanctified. Let your Kingdom come, Let your will take place, as in heaven, also on earth.”     Lenor created many great memories for her children and grandchildren, whom she loved spending time with. She enjoyed reading to her grandchildren, and going to the docks in Port Lavaca to throw bread crumbs to the sea gulls. In her spare time, she loved gardening and baking homemade deserts for her family and friends. One of her favorite past times was scouring magazines and cookbooks for recipes to add to her immense collection. Though her roots were humble, Lenor carried herself with immense class and grace, her smile and laugh were infectious, and she could cheer up even the melancholist of souls. She spoke of her love and joy for her family and God’s Kingdom whenever anyone would listen.     Lenor Ann Damons was an amazing woman who left behind an impression on all she met.     A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1202 S. East St. in Edna, on Saturday, July 23 at 11 a.m.
