Do you know someone in Jackson County that goes above and beyond to make this community a better place? How about a local business that really steps up and helps when needed?
Nominations are now being accepted for the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce’s Citizen and Business of the Year. The winners will be announced at the Chamber’s 64th Annual membership gala on Saturday, April 23 at the Jackson County Services Building in Edna.
Nominations for the 2015 Citizen of the Year and Business of the year can be made by anyone and nominees do not have to be a member of the Chamber.
The purpose of the Citizen of the Year award is to provide the prestige of community recognition for a man or woman who performs voluntary and beneficial service in Jackson County without expectation of renumeration.
The nominee should be truly outstanding throughout the county and/or community. Primary consideration should be given to volunteer accomplishments that affect the entire county, other than achievements of a citizen’s primary profession.
A major consideration for the selection is community service. The nominee can be from any walk of life and any segment of Jackson County. He or she should be a person whose influence and activities are felt all over the county.
A Jackson County business will also be selected as Business of the Year. Nominations will receive consideration based on community and/or county involvement and service by management and/or employees through special projects, existing channels, leadership and/or customer service and company attitude.
Nominations may be made by anyone, but only Chamber member businesses are eligible for consideration.
Nominations are also being taken for the Chamber’s Beautification Awards. The awards are to acknowledge businesses for their efforts in beautifying our county through improvements to the exterior of their businesses.
To be eligible for this award, the project must have been completed during 2015 and should be significant or easily recognizable. Nominations may fall into one or more of three categories: remodeling, landscaping, or clean-up.
Nomination forms for the awards are available at the Chamber office at 317 W. Main in Edna. Forms have also been emailed to Chamber members.
The deadline to submit nominations for any of these awards is 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 31.
So get busy and fill out a nomination form for a citizen or business of the year. Our community is a better place to live because of them and it would be great for them to get some recognition for their efforts.
