Cheryl Gray

Cheryl Denise McFeron Gray, 56, went to be with her Lord Nov. 29, 2015. She was born in Ganado on May 29, 1959 to Ronnie and Patricia Koop McFeron of Edna. She was baptized into the Christian faith at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Her sponsors were her uncles, Francis, Wesley, and Lesley Koop. Cheryl attended the Industrial school graduating in May, 1977 as a honor student. She was a coronet player in the Industrial Cobra band for seven years. After graduating, she traveled to Europe and England with the United States Collegiate Wind Band. Cheryl was in New York during the 1977 blackout and in London during Queen Elizabeth's silver jubilee. 

Cheryl graduated from Victoria Jr. College and attended the University of Houston-Victoria. She was a student accompanist for the Victoria College Choir. She was Miss Industrial and competed at the Miss South Texas beauty pageant in Seguin.

Cheryl married Noble Earl Gray on Oct. 13, 1979 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Edna. Cheryl was an executive secretary for the Calhoun County Navigation District until she went to work for the Calhoun School District in the music department. She was with the Calhoun Schools for 26 years and Palacios Schools for 4 years.

She was a member and accompanist for the Calhoun County Civic Choir when they performed in New York at Carnegie Hall. She also sang in the Victoria Civic Chorus. Cheryl was the organist for the First United Methodist Church in Port Lavaca for 23 years and was the music director at the First United Methodist Church in Edna for 10 years. She sang in a musical group called "The Sanguine Six" at the church. She played for many weddings and funerals. She also taught private piano lessons.

Cheryl is survived by her husband of 36 years, Noble Earl Gray of Vanderbilt; daughter Roni Kay and husband Wade Billings of Yorktown; son Luke and wife Jenna Gray of Kyle; mother, Patricia Koop McFeron of Edna; mother-in-law Ruth Gray of Point Comfort; grandchildren Reagan and Vivian Billings; sister-in-law Verna Brunner; brothers-in-law Michael Brunner, George Gray, and David Abraham; along with numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her father, Ronnie McFeron, brother Perry McFeron, sister Julie Abraham, uncles Tobey Koop, Bill McFeron, Tommy McFeron, aunt Joy McFeron Navarro, and cousins Billie Jean and Charles McFeron. She was also preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Francis and Williams Koop and Walter and Beatrice Browning McFeron.

Sheryl was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Edna. She was a beautiful person inside and out. She was a breath of fresh air, a ray of sunshine, and an extremely talented person who used her talent to glorify God.

A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Edna on Saturday, Dec. 5, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Adam Knapp officiating. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Edna or the donor's choice.
