A quiet Cobra leader talks with success

Whether you saw her spiking a volleyball down the edge of the court, being aggressive in stealing a basketball, jumping really high in a track meet, or leading the cheerleading squad, chances are you’ve seen graduating Industrial Cobra Lauren Brogger at her best, because she strives to be the best in every sport she competes in.
Brogger cleaned house the night of her school’s sports banquet. She pulled in Volleyball MVP, Track MVP, Basketball Cobra Pride, and the top honor of female All-Sports Athlete. This was right after coming home from the 2015 Texas State track meet, where she pulled in two bronze medals in the Long and Triple jump and finished seventh in the 100 meter hurdles. Her success at state was expected, being that she’d earned more than one first place in numerous events at track meets before state, plus regionals.
Her ability to stand out caught the eyes of track coaches at Texas State University, where she decided to sign as a heptathlete and execute seven track and field events: the 800, 200, 100 hurdles, long jump, high jump, javelin throw and shot put. To continue practicing, Brogger plans on doing summer track this year in Victoria to prepare her for the new events she will be doing. She plans on studying sports medicine or kinesiology.
“I want to have fun and get through the season, hopefully with some new personal records in the events I’ve done before, and learn new things with the events I haven’t,” she said. “I reached my goals my senior year and I want to continue that.”
Brogger hasn’t been a success without an obstacle or two, in her sophomore year she was out with a back injury in track. Her doctors said it was just sports upon sports without any rest, thus causing the problem in her back.
“My freshman year I made it to regionals in all of my events, but didn’t get past district my sophomore year because of my back,” Brogger said. “I recovered over the summer and everything has gone well since.”
She added she also pulled a quadriceps muscle this year, but it only caused her to miss out on two track meets.
