County brings in big wins at state track meet

    Jackson County track teams came home from last weekend’s 2015 UIL State Track and Field Meet at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of University of Texas at Austin with handfuls of medals.
    Edna High School sent seven athletes to the state meet. Sierra Pruitt won the 100-meter dash State Championship with a time of 11.42 seconds, and broke the previous state record. She also placed first in the 200-meter dash with a blazing time of 24.67. Pruitt was joined by Kamryn Roman, Ashley Myers and Reagan Luedecke in the 4x100-meter relay. They snatched a silver medal with a time of 48.77.
    Pole Vaulter KayLynn Grudzieski finished third after clearing the bar at 11-6.00. High Jumper Crystal Coulter competed but didn’t record a height on that rain-soaked Friday morning.
    Sprinter Brad Kucera finished ninth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.83 seconds.
    Ganado High School sent one individual and a relay team to state. Kameron Smith grabbed a bronze medal in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.78 seconds, and he also competed in the High Jump and finished in eighth place with a distance of 5-10.00.
    Smith was also part of the 400-meter Relay team that finished ninth with a time of 43.93 seconds. Smith was joined by Dalton Service, Garrett McCann and Matthew Sterling.
    Industrial High School sent four athletes as well to the state meet. Lauren Brogger finished third in the Long Jump with a leap of 18-3.00. In the Triple Jump she earned another bronze medal with a jump of 37-3.25. Brogger also competed in the 100-meter hurdles and finished seventh with a time of 15.39.
    Industrial 4x400-meter Relay team Montavius Coleman, Avery Milner, Jacob Muncrief and Anthony Sanchez placed 6th with a time of 3:28.63. Jacob Muncrief also finished ninth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:08.39.
