Saying a little thank you to all
The school year is almost over and here at the newspaper, it’s been busy. I mean really busy. Graduation time at the paper means details and keeping an eye out for them. With Diapers to Diplomas ads, the senior insert and ceremonies to be attended, it’s a wonder we’re not drinking (more) and call in sick to work for a week.
I suppose that’s what the summer is there for.
Anyhow, since we’re a small paper each person is basically a department of their own (if you didn’t know that already). News reporting was done by Lisa Shapiro and Jessica Coleman, and now it’s just Jessica. Lisa helped type endless senior questionnaires and went back over them again and again, not to mention being a liaison with the schools.
Advertising director Pam Harvey has been selling ads for our newspaper, the senior section, the bridal section, along with the congratulation pages the paper has been running for the athletes that have been excelling in their sport. In the same vein, Connie Moseley builds those ads and they check and double-check with advertisers to make sure the information they want is printed correctly. Connie and her daughter Sue Capak spends countless hours reading and rereading ads and pages to make sure no mistakes are printed. Connie is responsible for so much and it’s impressive to watch when she’s at her best.
Our new office manager, Jackie Folmar, is getting to know our office better and how silly we can get when deadlines are looming. Jackie has been dealing with all the customer’s questions and problems and doing it with a smile on her face. This is her first year dealing with graduation stuff and I hope it hasn’t scared her away!
Last and most definitely not least, publisher/editor Chris Lundstrom. Need I say more? There hasn’t been a day I’m not amazed at her patience and enjoyment with her job, and how it keeps her coming back. She wakes up with the roosters sometimes to deliver the papers, only to be in the office after hours making sure the graduation ends are tied.
The women at this office are hard workers, and it was my opinion they deserve a little credit for all that they do.
It’s about time to play some de-stress bingo again...
