‘Girls play Poth
The Edna Cowgirls lost to the Poth Pirates in Goliad on Feb. 16 in the Bi-District basketball playoffs with a final score of 30-52.
Coach Brett Nidey said the team played hard that night, but their shots were not falling in. "We have seven coming back for next year and we will be ready to get after it again," he said.
The score at the end of the first quarter was 7-15 in Poth's favor, and Edna came back to score more in the second quarter, but it wasn't enough to get them over the top. At halftime, Poth was up by seven points.
The third quarter proved more difficult for both of the teams, neither scored in the double digits. Poth added nine points and Edna three, with a score of 22-35. In the fourth quarter, Poth pushed through and added 17 more points to their score, while Edna only added eight, putting the final score at 30-52 in Poth's favor.
"It was a very special year," said Coach Nidey. "First to get back into the playoffs since we missed it last year, but also because it was my daughter's (Kacey Nidey) last year. I enjoyed coaching her along with Tamara (Mathis), Rylee (Morrow), Haley (Mitchell) and Kamryn (Roman), and watching them from sixth grade to seniors," he ended.
