Joe Marek
Joe F. Marek passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015 at the age of 99. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Angelina who entered eternal rest on Nov. 1, 2012. They were married for 64 years. He was a longtime resident of Edna and spent his last years in Fredericksburg at Knopps Nursing and Rehab Center.
Joe was born in Flatonia in Fayette County to the late Josef and Annie Masek Marek on Nov. 9, 1915. He proudly served his country for three years as a member of the United States Army during World War II. He was a farmer after he returned home from the war. He worked in various capacities in the butane and propane business for many years. There wasn't a space heater, or stove or water heater that he could not fix. Joe loved the great outdoors. He tended to his garden vegetables with great care and enjoyed sharing the produce with family and friends. He loved to hunt but his passion was fishing. On a Sunday afternoon, you could find him listening to his polka music. Joe was strong in his faith as a devout Catholic. He was a hardworking, patient, caring, and loving man. He was always eager to help anyone in need. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him and loved him.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Agnes Kocian and Mary Weinmann and brother John Marek.
Left to cherish his memory are his two loving daughters, JoAnn Janak and husband Bill of Fredericksburg, and Darlene Dusek and husband John of League City; granddaughter Brittany Dusek Serratos, M.D. and husband Kent of Houston; grandson Heath Dusek and wife Heather of League City; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation and rosary was held on Jan. 21 at Slavik Funeral Home in Edna. A memorial mass was at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna on Jan. 22 with Rev. Johnson Owusu-Boateng officiating. Interment was at Assumption Catholic Cemetary in Ganado.
