Newly-elected Precinct 4 Commissioner Dennis Karl, 64, was sworn in on Jan. 5 during a special commissioners’ court meeting at the Jackson County Courthouse.
Karl, a LaWard resident, said he received plenty of expert advice from former Precinct 4 Commissioner Larry Deyton and learned much about the county from him. He said there is much more to learn about his role as commissioner and more about the county. Karl said he is confident that he will do a good job.
He said there are a number of projects that Deyton has started that he will take on. Karl said the most challenging project will be building a new boat ramp off of Highway 35 that will allow public access to Carancahua Bay. One of the complications has been extending an existing offshore breakwater.
“They’re having a few problems with that,” Karl said. “It isn’t working quite the way that they thought it would. They thought that they can go in there and put these big rocks in there and build everything up with these big rocks, but the rocks are sinking.”
He said the problem will be resolved and the project will be completed as planned. Deyton said the project will be completed in March of 2015.
