A teenager was struck by a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado pick up truck on Jan. 3 just outside of 7-Eleven. He received minor injuries from the accident, according to Edna Police Chief Clinton Wooldridge.
The accident occurred at 7:38 p.m. at the intersection of East Division and South Wells Street (Highway 111). The 13-year-old male crossed the northbound lane into the southbound lane before he was struck by the pick up truck. The driver of the pick up truck was Amiee Guerra, 26, of Edna.
He is the second pedestrian that was struck by a vehicle outside of 7-Eleven in a month. Edna’s Ernie Yendrey was struck by a 2005 Dodge Ram pickup truck in the 700 block of S. Wells Street near Division Street at 8 p.m. on Dec. 3. Wooldridge said according to a relative the 68-year-old had injuries to his leg, spine, ribs and head.
He said he doesn’t believe speed is a benefactor. He has spoke with Texas Department of Transportation about lowering the speed limit in front of the Jackson County Hospital.
Wooldridge said sometime last year the Texas Department of Transportation took down a caution light that was on the intersection along Wells Street and a flashing red light on Division Street, but he isn’t sure if that would cause the two accidents.
He said before the two accidents, it had been a number of years since the last time a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.
