There will be plenty to do in Jackson County this Saturday, so plan to visit downtown Ganado and Edna for some wintery Christmas fun.
The City of Ganado’s Annual Christmas on the Square will include a full day of events for everyone in the family. The event is from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and includes some exciting activities not often seen in South Texas.
An artificial ice skating rink, a holiday maze, and Ganado’s Farmer and Handmade Market will be available. Three sessions of Painting the Town for adults and children will be held by the Boarding for Rescues and Animal Welfare group outside by Estella’s. Painters can choose from doing a holiday candy tree at 11 a.m., ornaments from a branch at 1 p.m. and a Christmas-y initial at 3 p.m. Razzle Dazzle will perform at 5:30 p.m. in the street next to Citizen’s Bank with the lighting of the Christmas tree afterwards. Ganado will also introduce something new this year: a Snowzilla 40’x40’ mobile tubing slide!
The farmers market will be open until 3 p.m. and all the downtown businesses plan to stay open until 8 p.m.
The Edna Merchants are also planning their annual Christmas Shop at Home with 50,000 pounds of fresh snow arriving on the courthouse lawn early Saturday morning. Chris Lundstrom, chairman of the Edna Merchants and Friends, said many store will stay open until 7 p.m. and continue those late hours throughout the Christmas shopping season.
“The big events are Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5 and 6,” she said. “On Friday the downtown Christmas tree and lights on the courthouse lawn will be officially lit and accompanied by the Edna Elementary children’s choir. Santa Claus will also make an appearance on his customary fire truck.”
