Charles C.J. Barnes

Charles “C.J.” James Barnes, of Edna passed away Friday, Sept. 26, 2014, at the age of 69. He was born Nov. 30, 1944, in Bacon Town to the late Eddie Bryant and Ada Lee Brown.
    C.J. was united in marriage to Shanna Miller on Sept. 28, 2012. He was proudly employed by Hermes & Steffek in Edna for many years. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Morales. C.J. was deeply loved by everyone who knew him. He took great and special pride in all of his grandchildren. C.J. loved life and always gave people a second chance. He loved his horses, great conversation with close family, friends, loving driving 18-wheelers, or as he would call them, the “Big Trucks”. 
    He is survived by his loving devoted wife, Shanna Barnes; children, Chamera Cantu (Kevin), De’Quan Cantu (Georgi), Drakkar Miller all of Edna, Willie Chase of Utah; acclaimed daughters, Chloe Thompson and Sharmeta Anderson; sister, Joyce Faye Robinson of Edna; brother, J.B. Butler (Janice) of Edna; uncle, Tvan Bryant. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Damariye Cantu, Kyleigh Cantu, Kae’Lynn Jackson, Alayiah Miller and Jason Jackson.
    C.J. is preceded in death by his parents.
    A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 11 a.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home chapel in Edna. Burial will follow in Mount Olive Cemetery in Edna. Rev. Hayward Robinson will officiate.
    Pallbearers are J.B. Butler, Dorian Miller, Sebert National, Micheal Isaac, Kevin Jackson, Jr., Fred Jones, Carson Williams and Kevin Jackson, Sr. Honorary pallbearers are Hermes & Steffek Employees, Damariye Cantu, DeQuan Cantu, Drakkar Miller, Jason Jackson, A.B. Clay, Jason Thompson and Danny Kubecka.
