Maidens experience an off week

The Ganado Maidens played the Shiner Comanches on Sept. 23 and lost in three games, 25-19, 25-24, and 25-15.
Taylor Mirelez had 50 attacks and 15 kills, while Valeria Garcia had 10 attacks, 15 kills, and a block. Cheyenne Galindo had seven attacks, a kill, and two blocks, plus Hannah Janssen’s four digs. Sarah Novak added two attacks, a kill, three assists and four digs, Alexis Mojica had two attacks, a kill, 21 assist and two digs, while Kylie Hicks added nine attacks and five kills. Kendall Alvarez gave four attacks and a dig, and Haley Carter added two digs.
The Ganado Maidens also played Weimar Wildcats on Sept. 26, and lost in three games, 25-18, 25-12, and 25-17. Statistics were unavailable at press deadline.
Head Coach Bryan Branch said the team had an opportunity to win the match against Weimar, but they didn’t make plays when they needed to. “We made a tremendous amount of unforced errors the entire match, and Weimar for the most part did very little to score their points,” he said. “It is very disappointing that the biggest obstacle in us winning matches against a good team is ourselves. Sometimes we just need to get the ball over and make the other team earn their points instead of us giving them the points by making an unforced error.”
The Maidens will have played Louise, there, on Tuesday, Sept. 30, and will play Prairie Lea on Friday, Oct. 3, threre.
“We should take care of business against them although we are not looking past them,” Branch said of Louise and Prairie Lea. “That will be the end of the first round of district. We need to beat Flatonia, Shiner and Weimar in the second half to stand a chance of making the playoffs. Again, all of those matches are coin flips, we need to make fewer errors and win out.”
