Cobras prepare for district play

    The Industrial Cobras fell to the Goliad Tigers Friday night, Sept. 26, with a final score of 47-0.
    #83 and senior Jesse Sanchez said, “The Cobras have had a tough season so far, but we’re not going to give up the fight.”
    The first quarter started off with the Goliad Tigers electing to receive the ball and the Cobras stopping the opening drive. Tigers scored two touchdowns in the first quarter of play and another touchdown in the second quarter with the point after attempt failed. With 1:35 left in first half the Tigers scored another touchdown leaving the score 27-0 in favor of the Tigers.
    The second half of play the Cobras came out strong with a 20-yard return, but they were unable to move the ball and ended up having to punt. This allowed Goliad to come back and score with 9:07 left in the third quarter.     An interception by #11 and senior Daniel Santillian put the Cobras on the 8-yard line with 6:40 left in the third quarter unable to drive the ball, Cobras ended up punting. The end of the third quarter left the Tigers in the lead with a score of 34-0.
    In the fourth quarter Goliad scored two more touchdowns, but it was #29 and junior Jay Sandoval who stripped the ball away with 2:44 left to play. The Cobras took over, but turned the ball over on downs. Overall, the score was Goliad Tigers 47, and Industrial Cobras 0.
    Head Coach Jeff Rogers said with the preseason behind them the Cobras are looking forward to beginning district play. “They are playing hard, we have a few kids that I held out this last week so we could be ready for district."    The Industrial Cobras will  have their bye week on Oct. 3 and will be back for district play on Friday, Oct. 10 to face the Palacios Sharks, there.
