Ganado scores on Tigers

The Indians suffered a 41-12 loss from the Goliad Tigers at their homecoming game on Friday. “I think their size and athleticism were just a little bit more than ours,” said Coach Drew Bridges. “They had several more people than us, and we had to use the same boys throughout the whole game. I think that really wore us down.”
The game began and the Indians kicked off to the Tigers, but a few plays later a fumble was scooped up by Junior Jacob Foltyn. Several plays later a pass was intercepted by Goliad, but the runner was taken down after only a few yards by Senior Austin Alford. After a sack by Sophomore Christian Palacios caused the Tigers to fumble, the ball was returned to the Indians when Sophomore Malcolm Chaisson leapt on top of it. Despite much effort the Indians could not complete several passes and were forced to punt the ball.
The Indians tried their hardest to push the Tigers away from the end zone, but a long pass and run gave the Tigers the first touchdown of the game. With a good field goal the score became 7-0.
The Indians were once again forced to punt the ball, but a sack by Alford eventually forced them to punt the ball back. The next play, Senior Jonathan Martinez made a pass to Senior Kameron Smith who ran and gave the Indians their first touchdown of the game. With a no good extra point the score became 7-6.
Several short passes landed the Tigers 3 yards from the end zone. Even with a strong push back from the Indian defense a pass gave the tigers yet another touchdown and another extra point. The scoreboard flashed to 14-6.
The Indians were forced to give the ball back to the Tigers after a fumble. Once again the Tigers proved that they could pass the ball towards the end zone by landing themselves 2 yards away. A short run gave them their touchdown with a good extra point. The Tigers had now racked their score up to 21-6.
An interception gave the Tigers the ball, and a play later they scored with a 15 yard pass. This ended the first half with a score of 27-6.
The second half began and so did a back and forth battle over the ball. Eventually the ball landed in the hands of the Indians who decided it was time for another touchdown. A pass from Martinez to Sophomore Garret McCann gave the Indians their last touchdown of the game. Two more scores and two more extra points would come from the tigers ending the game with a score of 41-12.
Sophomore Matt Bridges felt that the Indians their game could easily be fixed. “We just didn’t play how we should have on offense or defense,” said Matt Bridges. “We just need to go out and have a good week of practice to get everything right for Van Vleck.”
Sophomore Garrett McCann felt he Indians could come out on top next week with effort from the entire team. “We each need keep doing our jobs on the field,” said McCann, “but each week we need to improve how we do those jobs. If we do that we’ll come back and be ready to play. It will be a good game.”
The Ganado Indians will face the Van Vleck Leopards, there, on Friday, Sept. 26. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
