Cowboys begin season with tough loss

    The Edna Cowboys kicked off their 2014 season with a heartbreaking loss to a tough, Odem Owl team, final score 30-26.
    To start the game, Edna won the coin toss and deferred to the second half. The Cowboy defense came out strong and held Odem to a three and out on the Owls first offensive possession of the game. The new look Cowboy offense came out strong as well on their first possession when quarterback #18, Landon O'Connor connected with brother, Logan O'Connor #33 for the first touchdown of the game. The Cowboys took a 7-0 lead after an extra point by #60, Aaron Padilla.
    Odem answered back quickly with a running touchdown, but the extra point failed after Cowboys special teams came up huge when #62 Sergio Vega and #14 Xavier Palacios blocked the kick, keeping the lead 7-6 with 4:29 left in the first quarter.  Score remained 7-6 in favor of Edna at the end of the first.
