Sheriff weighs in on gun control

As your duly-elected Sheriff of Jackson County, I believe it is important the citizens of Jackson County understand where I stand on the “gun control” agenda that the current Federal administration is campaigning for. The terrible mass murders that took place in Colorado and Connecticut have provided the setting and cause for advancing gun control legislation upon the law abiding citizenry of this state and country.
I took an oath to protect, preserve and defend the Constitution of the United States from all enemies, both foreign and domestic, and I will do everything within my power to not allow federal officials to descend upon the citizens of Jackson County and take from them what the Bill of Rights – in particular Amendment II – has given them.

Guns in the United States are what separate Americans from other countries and I believe it is the “glue” that keeps that separation in place. It is about freedom. Disarming every good and honest citizen in the country won’t keep guns out of the hands of violent criminals, as we are reminded daily of the murders committed in countries with Draconian gun laws like Mexico and the Middle East. Our major cities in the U.S. with the most restrictive gun laws continually have high murder rates.
