Baseball proof of hard work and a kind of faith

One of 2014-15 Edna Junior High's new teacher and coach, Chris Whitehead, graduated in 2008, and really has made a round trip in coming back home, and has done so without compromising who he is. He's played baseball on the college level at Schreiner University in Kerrville and has also played with the California Winter League, against international teams like Japan and France.
He is the son of Sherrie and Steven Bubba Whitehead and has an older sister, Steffany.
The Beginning Stages
Although Whitehead played a few different sports while he was growing up: football, basketball, and baseball, he stopped playing basketball when he was a freshman in high school, and baseball was with him from the start.
“I was five years old and playing tee-ball here in Edna, but I remember two of my friends played and our next-door neighbor would take us backyard and teach up how to shoot a bow-and-arrow and hit a baseball,” he said. “But my mom continued it, she was always there teaching me how to stand and how to do this or that. At my first tee-ball game I ended up hitting a home run,” he smiled.
