Fireworks will be on July 5

Lavaca-Navidad River Authority will hold its annual Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks on Saturday, July 5. Individuals may wonder why the celebration is a day after the 4th of July.
Cammie Pearson, recreation manager for Brackenridge Recreation Complex, says there are a limited number of licensed firework shooters on the 4th of July because most shooters are a part of larger shows in the cities. Pearson said it’s easier to find a licensed shooter on a day other than the 4th of July.
She said each year at the LNRA fireworks show there is only one licensed shooter because it is a smaller show compared to many of the shows in the bigger cities and LNRA only has enough budgeted for one shooter. The licensed shooter usually comes on the Saturday after the 4th of July. Pearson said having one person saves LNRA money and allows them to have more fireworks.
“We’ve done really well with the fireworks show,” Pearson said. “We get more than what we paid for.”
