Edna ISD band director resigns

Edna High School Band Director Josh Partida was hired by the Victoria Independent School District Board of Trustees on June 19 to be the new head band director at Victoria West High School.
“I’ll be at the helm of the bands for the West community,” Partida said. “Aside from running the marching and concert bands at West, I will be team-teaching and collaborating with the middle school directors on music curriculum for their students, as I will for my own.”
He said he turned in his letter of resignation to Edna ISD on June 20. Partida said he is leaving Edna because it’s a better situation for his family.
“My wife and I had our first child in February and I wanted to be closer to her in case anything happened and I needed to be there,” he said. “Plus, I graduated from Victoria and the opportunity to go back and teach the same kids that I used to be, it’s almost like a homecoming of sorts.”
VISD Director of Communications Diane Boyett said Partida will start on Aug. 6. Boyett said faculty members are put on a one-year contract annually.
