Jackson County residents got a surprise this morning after waking up to power outages and seeing tree branches down this morning.
Lavaca-Navidad River Authority reported a total amount of rainfall of 1.93 inches and wind gusts up to 55.9 at its headquarters.
Larry Koop, superintendent of Jackson Electric Cooperative, said about 1,000 customers had no power. Jackson Electric started receiving phone calls about power outages around 1:30 a.m. Koop said there are still six telephone poles down. He said service will be back by noon.
Edna Police Chief Clinton Wooldridge said there is damage all over Edna. Wooldridge said some of the damage reported included a carport that collapsed on the porch of the Dugger House, a tree fire on Nancy Street and a tree that collapsed on a truck in the driveway. At Texana Park, a metal roof was blown off of a building where maintenance employees work. Some poles are down near George Washington Carver School on East Cedar Street.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s office said tree branches are down throughout the county.
