Vehicle wrecks on U.S. Highway 59

A wreck on U.S. Highway 59 occurred at 3:15 p.m. on April 23 and left six individuals with non-life threatening injuries. 
The accident took place four-tenths of a mile from Farm-to-Market 530 just outside of Edna. A 2003 Chevrolet Suburban, driven by Maria Elizabeth Melendez, 59, was traveling northbound on the outside lane before the vehicle drifted into the inside lane and into the median. Department of Public Safety Spokesman Gerald Bryant said Melendez tried to steer back to the right and went into a side skid striking the cables in the median. The vehicle rolled several times in the median into the south side. 
All occupants were from Monterrey, Mexico and were transported by Jackson County EMS. On the front passenger side was Karina Moreno, 38. In the back seat were Jesus Martinez, 62, Daliris Guerrero, 9, Jesus Guerrero, 14, and Adalberto Guerrero, 2. All passengers were transported to Citizens Medical Center in Victoria. The driver was transported to DeTar Hospital in Victoria.  
DPS Trooper Kevin Henneke responded to the accident.
