Virginia Kurner

    Virginia Kurner passed from this life to be with Jesus on Feb. 6, 2014 at 92. John 3:16 “For God, so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
    Virginia “Jinny” was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Raymond Kurner and by her son Roger Kurner who died at age 11.
    She is survived by her son Bryan Kurner, his wife Joy and their children Mark and Grace of San Antonio. Also surviving daughter Pam Kurner and her husband Philip Bertram of Galveston as well as Sister Mabel Evans of Galveston and numerous nieces and nephews.
    In Houston prior to retirement, Jinny loved trips to the beach in Freeport or Galveston. She was a homemaker, Girl Scout Troop leader, Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School leader, worked to increase laws against child abuse, and was active in the Republican Party. Later she worked in retail especially enjoying working in the china department at Joske’s.  She was always there to nurse sick family members over the years. 
    Jinny and Ray moved to Cape Carancahua in the 1980s after retirement and enjoyed living by the bay. Jinny enjoyed fishing and swimming with friends. Jinny was active at the Carancahua Chapel, Capers and for a while ran the local food pantry. She organized a new Extension Homemakers club to be able to include a minority woman. Jinny was a kind and loving person who sacrificed for her family and was generous to all. She had a great sense of humor and was witty even into her last years.
    Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14 followed by memorial services  at 6 p.m. at Schertz Funeral Home, 2217 FM 3009, Shertz.
    A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Carancahua Community Center Chapel, CR 470, Palacios.
    Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 15 at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12000 Westheimer Road, in Houston.
    Pallbearers include Mark Kurner, Keith Koby, Charles Chambless, Bryan Kurner, Jim Heath, Tim Moore, Paul Abraham, and Carl Baldwin
    Rev. Brett Becker of St. Paul Evangelical Church, Cibolo, TX 210-658-5874 will serve at all services.
    Flowers are welcome as are donations to the Virginia Kurner Memorial Fund at St. Paul Evangelical Church.
