EHS Athletic Director resigning

    By Lisa Shapiro, Staff Writer

Edna High School Athletic Director Mike Pierce said he will be retiring at the end of the school year so he can sit back and enjoy life.
A few of the activities he will be partaking in during retirement is watching his daughter coach at Stephenville Junior High, improve his golf swing and work with his cattle.
He turned in his letter of resignation to the EISD Board of Trustees during a regular board meeting on Jan. 21. Trustees did accept his letter of resignation. Since then he has been receiving e-mail and phone calls from people wanting to wish him luck.
Pierce said he would not change anything from his 6 years at EHS. He said working at EHS has been fun.
“I’ve been very proud of what I’ve done through the years and how I’ve impacted a lot of people,” he said.
Aside from being athletic director, Pierce has coached a number of sports at EHS, including football and track. He said he is very competitive and coaches with intensity. When people heard he was retiring, many of them were surprised because he was the type of coach that didn’t slow down, Pierce said.  He thought retiring at the end of the school year was a good time because it would give the district enough time to find a new athletic director that is well-qualified and will lead the high school in the right direction.
