New voter cards mailed
The new orange voter registration certificates for 2014-2015 were placed in the mail Dec. 6. Upon receiving your card, review it carefully for any errors. If there is an error on your card, please contact the Voter Registrar’s office immediately at 361.782.3473. Also, please keep your card in a safe place as you will need to provide it at the time of voting.
The Texas Election Code stipulates the post office is not allowed to forward voter registration certificates. Voters who have moved or changed their mailing address since registering to vote may not receive their voter registration certificates. The certificates will be returned to the Voter Registrar’s office and a confirmation letter will be mailed. It is important that you respond to the letter by completing the confirmation card enclosed in the letter and returning it to the Voter Registrar’s office. If you have not received your voter registration certificate, please come to the Voter Registrar’s office located in the Jackson County Courthouse at 115 West Main, Room 102, Edna. Changes to Voter Registration certificates cannot be made over the telephone.
Voter registration certificates are sometimes delivered to an address where the voter no longer lives. Should you receive a card at your address which is not yours, please return it to the mail carrier.
When you move from one county to another you will want to register to vote in the new County of Residence. You must be registered at your new county 30 days prior to an election to be eligible to vote. For the March 4, 2014 Primary Election, the last date to register to vote or make changes to your voter registration is Feb. 3, 2014.
Voters who do not come to the office to make the appropriate changes and receive their new orange certificate may encounter problems when attempting to vote. You will be required to complete a “Statement of Residence” card prior to being allowed to vote.
Please discard the yellow voter registration certificate once it expires Dec. 31, 2013 and replace it with the new orange certificate.
