Edna Cowboys tussle with Gobblers
By Michael Brooks
Rainy weather and a third early season game against the Cuero Gobblers was what the Edna Cowboys baseball team faced this week.
Edna lost the opening game of the Cuero Tournament and then fought their way back to defeat the Gobblers in the championship game of the same tournament.
In the third meeting on Feb. 28, Cuero got their revenge for their loss and defeated the Cowboys 13-4.
Aided by some Edna miscues in the field, the Gobblers scored three second inning runs, and then added four more in the third.
"We were high on ourselves, coming off of that tournament win. I told the guys Cuero would come in with a chip on their shoulders after we beat them in their own house," Head Coach Eric Vazquez said. "They capitalized on our mistakes, scored on some errors, and we never could get anything going."
Edna got on the scoreboard in the third inning when Ronaldo Saenz’ two runs batted in a double, and Cade Orsak added a stolen base to an infield single. This gave the Cowboys a third run and he hit a hard grounder to the shortstop. The Gobbler bobbled the ball and Orsak's hustle allowed him to beat the throw to first, and Edna's third run scored on the error.
