Juan Samora

Juan Estevis Samora, of Edna went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017, at the age of 78. He was born on June 24, 1938, in Edna, to the late Manuel Samora and Rafaela Ramirez Samora.
Juan was the former pastor and founder of Monte Calvario Pentecostal Church in 1970, until retiring after 25 years, now known as New Harvest Church. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend who will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his daughter, Virgina Figirova and her husband Louis; son, Albert Samora; grandchildren, Angelica Garza (Jay), Miguel Nieto, Jr. (Brandi), Julie Nieto, Sonia Quick (Greg), Priscilla Quiroz (Hector), Leah Samora, Luke Samora, Kaylin Verrett (Brian), Jonathan Figirova, Brandon Figirova, and Isaiah Figirova; great-grandchildren, Noah Quiroz, Ivan Joe Nieto, Mason Verrett, Layla Verrett, Jazlynn Garza, Isabella Garza, Karter Vasques, Levi Trevino, and Colt Alexander Quick; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Juan is preceded in death by his wife, Eloisa Partida Samora; daughters, Esther Garza and Gloria Nieto; five sisters; six brothers; and granddaughter, Abigail Zapata.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 10 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel, with a prayer service to follow at 6 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 10 a.m. in the New Harvest Christian Church in Edna. Rev. John Carmona and Mary Garcia will be officiating. Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Victoria.
Pallbearers will be Miguel Nieto, Jr., Brandon Figirova, Jonathan Figirova, Luke Samora, Cruz Gonzales, Lee Caballero, Jay Garza, and Greg Quick. Honorary pallbearers are Isaiah Figirova, Ivan Joe Nieto, Colt Quick, Karter Vasquez, Levi Trevino, and Mason Varrett.
