Cody Glover Sr.

Cody Glover Sr.     Cody M. Glover, Sr. born Friday, Oct. 7, 1932, passed away from this life into eternity on Friday, Nov. 18, 2016, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by his family and friends.    He was born to Naomi White Glover and Orville Guy Glover in Hico, Erath County.  Cody joined the Navy on Jan. 13, 1951 in Houston, where he served as a 2nd Class Electrician's Mate and 2nd Class Petty Officer.    After his tour of duty he was employed by United Gas Pipe Line Co. and worked for them for 38 years in various cities and capacities. In July of 1961 he was transferred to Edna, where he worked in the telephone department as Communications Supervisor. Cody also maintained a part-time electrical business going full-time after retirement from United Gas.       Cody married Laverne Dickey in Houston on Dec. 5, 1957. To this union was born two children, Cody Maurice Glover, Jr. and Cheryl Elaine Glover.     Cody was a member of the Robison Street Church of Christ, and the American Legion.       He is preceded in death by his parents.       Cody is survived by his wife, Laverne; daughter Cheryl Ray and husband Terry; son Cody Maurice Glover, Jr. and wife, Nancy, their four grandchildren, Chris Ray, J.T. Ray, Kyle Glover and his wife Caitlin and Brooke and husband Miguel Marin, and their four great-granddaughters.    Visitation was Sunday, Nov. 20, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Slavik~Edna Funeral Home Chapel, 209 N. Allen St. Edna. Services were Monday, Nov. 21 at 10 a.m. with John Mercer officiating. Interment was in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Edna.          Pallbearers were Terry Teer, George Tompkins, Terry Ray and their four grandsons.       Honorary Pallbearers were Joe Figerova, Jimmy Zarate, Tony Cavazos, Filipe Villela, Lamar Padon and members of the Wells Fargo and Whataburger Coffee Clubs.    The family requests in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Jackson County Hospital Nursing Department, or the donor's choice.       The family also wishes to thank past dedicated caregivers, Shirley Barnes and the nursing and medical staff of the Jackson County Hospital.       Services have been entrusted to Russell Todish of Slavik~Edna Funeral Home, Edna, 361-782-2152.
