Srp appointed city attorney

The departure of Bobby Bell as District Attorney in Jackson County has set off a domino effect of sorts, moving Pam Guenther, former Assistant DA into the DA spot, and leaving both the ADA and Edna City Attorney seats vacant. The Assistant DA position was filled by Keith Weiser, and on Oct. 20, the Edna City Council voted to hire homegrown Edna resident Jake Srp to take the City seat.
“When [Guenther] took on more responsibilities now that she is district attorney, she reluctantly tendered her resignation,” said City Manager Don Doering. “She didn't feel she could  do both. She was wonderful and I can’t say enough good things about her.”
Doering said Srp almost immediately came to mind.
“He is wonderful,” said Doering. “He is a local individual. He is the chairman of the ESD#3 board. He is involved already, and knows what is going on. He is energized and conscientious.”
Srp is experienced in many facets of law, including wills, probates, corporate law, and more. He’s practiced some criminal law and has worked for the district attorney’s office in Victoria. His experience in several fields was a big part why the city chose him for the position, which includes everything from reviewing any financial deals the city makes to prosecuting municipal court misdemeanor cases.
Srp graduated from Edna High School in 1998, has worked for the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, and  graduated from law school in 2011. He’s lived in Edna for most of his life, and loves the city he calls home.
“I’m excited about it,” he said. “There’s a lot for me to learn, and it’s an area I haven’t practiced a lot, so I am excited about getting into something new and working with the city.”
